2 days till my first PSA test since my surgery.

I've been reading here but never posted.... I was diagnosed in Sept. of 2011 with 1 of 12 cores positive, psa 6.5, Gleason 4+4 and staging was T1c. I chose robotic surgery and had it on December 1st. Final path report lowered Gleason to a 4+3 and no positive margins. My first blood test is in two days and I'm praying I can join the zero club..... getting a little nervous! I'm very thankful mine was caught early, I'm 44 and just so glad my doctor wanted to check my psa early.... I had no symptoms! I look forward to following this forum closer. Jeff

Welcome. Hubby was diagnosed at 45. We have 2 little ones at home. We are right behind you in our journey. Hoping and praying you are undetectable.

Welcome, Jeff, glad you decided to join us.

Sounds like you are doing pretty good so far, hate to see another guy as young as you joining our merry band. I was
56 when dx., and my uro said I was one of his youngest PC patients.

Hopefully, you will get a big fat zero on this important post surgery PSA test, sure the brothers of the zero club will
welcome you with open arms.

Glad you spoke up. Great to hear from you.

Waiting is so hard. I have to wait till June for my first post procedure PSA.

Please report the results - here's hoping you make it to zero.

Thanks so much for all the quick replies, it helps alot to hear all the positive attitudes here. I started getting a little bit nervous last week when a friend of mine, same age called me to tell me his psa went up a little. He had the same surgery as me but did have a positive margin. I don't remember the exact psa number but it was just a slight increase.... His urologist told him to wait and check again later, his surgeon said start radiation because of the known positive margin and now he's waiting to speak with the radiologist. I'm glad my urologist was my surgeon, it helps so much to have 100% confidence in your Doctor! Thanks again and I pray the best for all of you. I have lots of questions so I'm glad I found this very active forum.

As a newbie to all of this as well, only a couple of months behind you, I wish you and your family best wishes in your quest for zero club.

Also a new member last week to this incredible HW family who have been unbelievably supportive.

Hi Jeff

By now you probably have had your results and I hope they were as good as we all hope. I see my consultant tomorrow and I'm hoping for a zero score too. Let you know how it goes.

Once again, thanks for all the support from everyone and Tony... Good luck tomorrow on your visit. My appointment is tomorrow (Tues.) as well and I will say a prayer for both of us tonight that we both join the ZERO club tomorrow! Let us all know tomorrow how you do and I will do the same. Jeff

Jeff: Sorry that you have to join our "club", but there are a lot of men who are going and will keep going thru the anxiety of regular testing. Yes, the first blood test post-surgery is the toughest and as you get more and more zeros, I think that they get a little easier since statistics start to build up to your advantage of being "cured". Keep using the SAME lab. I am just getting into my 3rd test (post surgery) (all <0.01 thank God, so far) and one thing that have I noticed is that whenever I look at the calendar to plan a date or event; I always put it into the context of when that will be in relation to my next PSA test! What a way to live! But when you do get that ZERO, it is a wonderful day and you really do "smell the flowers" and appreciate life! Good Luck.

Age now: 59
May 2011: PSA 3.3, Free PSA 21%, - DRE
Biopsy June 2011: 1/12 cores +, one core 10%, Gleason 3+4=7
DaVinci RP: 7/19/11, Chilton Hospital, NJ , Dr. Tricia Greene (highly recommended).
Downgraded to Gleason 3+3=6, 10% involvement, all else clear.
Immediate urinary control after cath removal. Thank you doctor Greene!
Cialis: 5 mg. nightly (Indian Cipla brand over internet...35 cents per dose!)
ED being resolved nicely with Bimix injections (highly recommended). Started BiMIx at month 5.
Big natural ED improvement at 7.5 months.

Hi Jeff and all you other kind folks out there

I saw my surgeon today back here in the University Hospital in Cardiff, Wales, UK.( I'm not a limey, just a Taffy !). He told me that my PSA is so low it can't be recorded ...first time in my life I've been delighted to score zero! The cancer was a Gleason 7 and was confined in the prostate, no involvement of margins or lymphnodes. As far as he was concerned I was now completely cancer free !

Hope everything went just as well for you, Jeff, and for anyone else out there waiting for test results.

Hey Tony.... CONGRATULATIONS on your zero's!!! I saw my Urologist this morning and after the blood test he told me mine was undetectable! What a relief that was, so am I invited into the Zero club? Also thanks for all the comments and support. Jeff

You are in Jeff, congratulations! I know how nerve racking the first test is and it's great news for you and your family. I hope that this is the first zero of many.

Only drawback to this of course is new members pay for drinks.....

Welcome to our fraternity and congratulations on your zero club membership I will be the guy waiting for my free drinks in the clubhouse tonight. I just looked at my calender and I have my 9 month post PSA test next Tuesday and I have to go through the anxiety of the 3 month PSA tests for another 2 years. See you tonight, BTW I really like a good single malt Scotch.

Jeff,  I had my surgery 8 days after yours and had my first PSA late January at <0.09.  Hope you will get similar sesults.

Jeff, congratulations and welcome to the Zero Club. Waiting for results and anxiety every three months is a way of life. You get used to it. I just came back from my second PSA test after surgery and Thanks the Lord it is ZERO. best of luck to you.
