Pain After Urination If Urge Is Low

Does anyone else have this problem, and if so what can be done to help? I've had penie/urethral pain since surgery.  If I wake up during the night and feel the need to urinate if the urge is not high enough, I'll produced a pretty good stream for a fe seconds then it thins out, dribbles and I get a "tingly" kind of nerve pain, that usually lasts all the next day.  I've mentioned it to my doctor and he doesn't seem to have an answer.  Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this.  Thanks.

You mentioned Doctor - is it your surgeon that you mentioned it to? I'm thinking he might need to run a scope down ya and check things out.

I'm taking Alfuzosin that seems to help with discomfort. Similar to hytrin.

I have a similar situation where at the end of emptying the bladder I get the same feeling as when the bladder is full - like there is more to let out.

I am only speculating that the top of the bladder let's down to touch the bottom where the surgery took place and is somehow presses a little on the scar tissue and stimulating some confused nerves. Just guessing, no proof.

Steve n Dallas...It's my surgeon...the one who did the procedure.  He did a cysto Oct. 31 and said things were healing as they should, but I agree with you...more tests are in order.  I have an appointment on April 9.

I would have suggested scoping too, as Steve said above, but you said that has already been done. A potential stricture at the bladder neck or even in the urehtra would have been a possibility, but sounds like your surgeon has ruled that out. Hopefully, the pain will abate over time, as often the case with strange post-surgical pains.

That's what I'm hoping.  This particular pain I'm getting is if I try to pee when the urge is too low, then the stream is not strong and for some reason that causes pain.

My husband had a lot of pain after his TURP when urinating, and he took Voltaren for a day or so.  Took  pain and discomfort away almost completely.

Im not sure what Voltaren might be called in other countries, and I am not at home to look it up.  However, if you do a search for it on the net, you should be able to get it easily.  It is not a prescription drug, it's over the counter here in Australia.  It worked WONDERS!!!!

Thanks for your kind replies.  It happened again last night.  I woke around 11:30 with some lower abdominal discomfort and slight urge to urinate.  I was afraid to try so took klonopin and managed to get back to sleep till around 3:00 when I woke with greater discomfort...pressed on bladder and could tell there was urine...difficult to determine level of urgency when pain/discomfort is present.  I decided to give it a go...stood at the toilet....stream immediately started and felt pretty normal at first, but quickly decreased and stopped...pain immediately ensued, this time in my upper abdominal area (above the bladder area)...a "burning" sensation, which subsided after a while but was soon repalced by the pelvic/penile pain that is usually the result.  Today it has not been as bad as it often is...pain is not too bad.  Just wanted to describe the complete scenario in case there is anyone else who is experiencing this type of issue.  Thanks again to all who have responded.
