The doctor called me two weeks ago with the blunt message: "Bill, you have diabetes."
That sure got my attention, as have the 3 needle pricks each day to test the blood sugar level.
Well, the blood sugar was 133 (not ridiculously high) and the A1C was 7.1, so my R. N. wife shifted into caregiver mode and we went grocery shopping. No more potato chips; no more snacks; more vegetables; more fruit. My Dad neglected his diabetes and paid a huge price, and his Dad also had borderline diabetes (which he kept under control).
The result? I've lost ten pounds in two weeks and about two inches to the belly. My blood pressure is lower by a noticeable amount, and I'm hoping that when I lose 10 more pounds I won't need the Metformin he prescribed for the blood sugar. Current readings are now well within normal limits, but the Metformin undoubtedly gets credit for some of that. Even before I started taking the pills, though, I was getting satisfactory readings just as a result of the diet changes.
Congratulations to you, Water Guy and let's both keep up the progress. Casey's right. It's not about a diet. It's about a whole new way of approaching nutrition.
I've never been a sedentary guy...always active...but the body just doesn't process the bad food as well as it used to :)
