Pls help me, my dad just got his results from sandlake imaging, they found the cancer in the sacral bone. My dad had surgery and radiation to the entire pelvic area 2 years ago 72gy/ 40 sessions. Dr Myers told my dad if the cancer comes back it will definitely be outside the pelvic area no cancer can survive that much radiation. Now it's back in the same area, I am soooo scared! Pls help me, does he still have a chance of a cure? Meaning, will they radiate the same area Again?!!! Pls advise

Does your father still respond to hormone therapy?

They can radiate the bone area that has a met. There are new/expensive medicines out there including Zytiga and Provenge.
Cabozantinib, formerly known as XL184, looks promising. It is in trials. Good luck.

Ok hon, calm down. Yeah I understand scary scary times.

There is always something that can be done and as robertcool pointed out there are new meds coming out.

Your Dad should go back to his team and see what they say as a starting point.

Zapping the cancer (if indeed there is cancer) on the sacral bone may or may not be an option...Something to talk with your Radiation Oncologist about..Some of todays highly focused treatments might be able to do it without exceeding his allowable lifetime dose..Is he still on HT? With this treatment, it's important to monitor his "T" level as the HT drugs do not work effectively in all men...

Have you read 'Guide to surviving prostate cancer" by Patrick Walsh? The later chapters cover treating advanced PC extensively..

Actually basically what I want to know is that when someone receives radiation to their entire pelvic bed does that include the sacrum bone? I would like to know this because I want to know if this area might have been missed by the radiation or was it already radiated and just came back?

The sacrum is fairly high up in the pelvis..You would need to talk with the R.O. who developed your Dad's treatment plan to see what structures received what dose...The term "Full Pelvis" does not provide enough information..

Thank you Fairwind, I spoke with Sloan this morning they will be getting back to me to exactly tell me which areas were within the scope of radiation...

In case the sacrum was, has anyone been or heard of someone who was radiated twice in the same area and/or spot?

Thank you for all your help! I really hope my dad is a candidate for radiation. If so, he will be going to the Dattoli Center in Sarasota for treatment.
