2 Years Today

2 Years Today since my RP what a journey it has been the first year were dreadful.

I went into depression although I didn't know it at the time I was obsessed with PC

I thought about it constantly not a moments peace it was always on my mind I

thought I would go mad.

Every new ache or pain I convinced myself it was PC and the dreaded 3 Month PSA

test oh the stress waiting for what I was convinced would be bad news that first

year was awful!!!!

Then after a year they put me on 6 Month PSA testing it made all the difference

at last I could have a break from blood tests 6 Mth is so much better than every

3 Month the 3 comes around so quick I felt I was constantly stressed waiting for

the bad news.

Now in my 2ND Yr I feel so much more relaxed no longer thinking about PC constantly

of course I think about it but not like before . I have my 2Yr PSA in 3 weeks I will be

anxious but if that comes back OK it will be so great!!!!!!

Congrats on your second anniversary - and congrats of being honest and open with your feelings - post-diagnosis and post-op depression and feelings can be swept under the run and need to be dealt with to help the person cope with and be the best they can be with their "new normal"

I am sure most of us can relate to this. Certainly for me I remember the shock at diagnosis made me feel that our lives would never be the same again. Thankfully everything has returned to normal for us – well despite the dreaded ‘PSA anxiety’ I get, although Jeff seems to breeze through it! He isn’t a worrier though – I do his share.

Congratulations on your 2 year Anniversary.

I had my open Radical Prostatectomy in February 2004 and

started attending meetings of the UsToo Prostate Cancer Support

Group at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey in

April 2004. It has been a source of great comfort to me for the past

8+ years and helped me deal with my early post-surgical depression.

UsToo is a completely voluntary International Group where Prostate Cancer Survivors can meet and share their experiences.

I am now Co-Chairman of the Hackensack Group and feel blessed to be able to share my PC experiences with men who have been recently diagnosed and sort of "numb" as I was at  PC diagnosis.

You can go online (www.ustoo.org) to see if there is a Chapter near you, if not, maybe another PC Support Group.

Meantime, you have found a wonderful group of guys here at HW

who have a wealth of information on PC and its treatments.

That just sounds so wonderful.  Can't wait to be at that place one day!  Trying just a little each day to "separate" from the PC a bit.  It's a process.  Way to go!
