Alotof? Needs Information on Advance Metstatic PCa, Books, Articles, etc.

Alotof? needs as much information as possible on her husband's advance metastatic cancer. If you know of any good books, articles, videos or other sources, please list them. They are in the first phase of finding out how extensive his cancer is and have a good appointment next month, but until then she is asking for as much information as this website can provide to her.

If you have advanced metastatic cancer, maybe you can share your experience, your treatments, etc. and information that you have been able to obtain from your treatments, doctor visits and research.

That is a good book 142 and was to long in coming out for patients to see such info, glad I got one from Paactusa.org Rick Profit.
Try joining yahoo group of www.[email protected]    the web info site is www.hrpca.org    (Howard Hansen founder-his family continues his work they have an email address within the group thing and answers your questions). Howard walked this walk and did a multitude of therapies even brain radiation (PCa made it there too), he lived 17 yrs. fighting this and has archived information, he fought mets on various fronts too. Bill Aishman (google) did extensive laymans searching and postings on his PCa journey as part of the same PCa group, his legacy of information exists in cyber land or may be linked to hrpca.org. Some people have taken the time to write extensively about their journies and for others on the net, these kinds of past warriors should be saluted for their contributions to all patients. There are many others I did not mention to.

Here is a link to a collection of papers about PCa from the Prostate Cancer Research Institute. The papers cover the gamut from initial diagnosis through hormone resistant cancer treatment. A number of prominent oncologists are represented.

Risk Category IV (positive bone scan)

Men with positive bone scans are at very high risk for developing hormone resistance within a very few years. Local therapy is not indicated because most of the cancer is outside the prostate; if ADT and possibly Taxotere are effective in suppressing the disease in the bones, the residual disease in the prostate will also be suppressed in almost all cases. Initiating ADT and Taxotere simultaneously rather than waiting until ADT loses effectiveness is a strong consideration for all except the very elderly because hormone resistance tends to occur fairly rapidly when ADT alone is used. Such a combination approach is still just investigational because studies proving that up front Taxotere in this setting translates into longer survival are still in process. Even so, the down side risk of early Taxotere administered to men who are in generally good health seems small compared to the risk of the early onset of hormone resistance.

I have the 142 and John T recommended books.  I have to say they are good books.

I would probrably fit this category.  Once I got a spot on one of my pelvic bone, I adopted a new attitude.  I started thinking along the lines --- "If I'm going down...I'm going down swinging".  I immediately went on HT, radiated the spot, started a bone drug called XGEVA and made an appointment with one of the best medical oncologist in Dr. Myers.  A few days ago I got a fresh bonescan and CT scan and you can't see where that spot was.

It would take pages to give you my whole story, but please feel free to email any questions...
