Well, today has been a good day. Started out by going fishing with my daughter and her husband. We went perch jerkin.....ie; bream fishing. Even used crickets for bait. Man did we have a good time. Caught 67 of the (pound for pound) hardest fighting fish known to man. These suckers probably averaged a pound or more, and did I say we had fun?

Okay, got back home, cleaned the fish, and then finished a report to my boss, that I knew they were waiting on....he he.

Then went and picked almost a gallon of the biggest, plumpest, sweetest tasting blueberries I've seen this side of Sam's Club. A good neighbor friend brought us about two gallons of plums this afternoon as well.

So, we just ended the day by having fried fish with daughter and son-in-law, and cracking jokes about the day.

And get this.......(drum roll)........I only thought about gleason 9 PCa about 68 or 32 times. Has to be some kind of record.

Thank you Bud, and yes they are. I often tell my little girl that she's my favorite daughter......to which she rolls her eyes at me, gives me that big grin that I love so much, and reminds me that she's my only daughter.

Gotta love it..... I'm a blessed man.

I sure do know the "rolls eyes and the big grin" - just melts your heart does it not?

Wait till your daughter gives birth to her babe. That my brother is magic time!

Fishing in South Louisiana cannot be beat. Glad you had some great family fun. I miss those days of actually catching fish. It's just not the same here in Washington. Very happy for you. Hope you had Hush Puppies as well.

Kbota, Sounds like a perfect day to me. Nothing quite like fried perch!... I can't remember the last time I have had that. mmmmmmm good.

Be careful of the plums, eat too many of them and you will know what I am talking about.

Now, that is a good day.  I am happy you had fun and were able to eat the catch of the day.  Isn't is amazing we worry about cancer.  I keep telling myself I probably had cancer a year before diagnosis and never worried at all about my health.  Now it stays on my mind.  I get a back ache or some other ailment and start worrying.  What is the old saying, if you worry about tomorrow you have lost today....

Anyway, it was great seeing you in Baton Rouge and look me up if you down my way.

Those are the kind of days that make living worth while. I have one daughter that goes on vacation with us to South Padre island Texas every year with her husband and 3 teen age boys. We go fishing almost every day and just enjoy the beach. We always go the first week of June right after the school year ends. I wish we had blue berries to pick.

Hey Rob....thanks. And by the way, the wife and I may be coming to Houston sometime this summer. She will have her annual followup at MDA. Maybe we can meet for lunch. I'll let you know.

As everybody has said, that sounds like a wonderful day.

I think that one should be considered 'GFMPH' too.

Our son is flying in from NYC this afternoon and there is much excitement in our house about it.

Now you're making me homesick. Spoke to my oldest brother , Sonny , the other day (he's just down the road from you) and he had just returned from a fishing trip-had cought  50-60 brim. When I was a kid, my dad and I use to hit Walker's lake. We would go down to Kitterlin (sp.?) Bay where we would cross Little River on a simple barge and then take a short tractor/trailor trip across land to Walker's Lake. I think today you can't even go there. Companys from Alex. have bought all the rights. Don't understanad how that can happen. Well we fished for brim ,but with fly rods, and was that fun. Even the small ones would make your heart jump. I guess I told you in BR that I have two daughters. One's a city (Chicago) girl and the youngest wants to live off the land.

 She and her boyfriend camp at Stuart Lake when they visit. We have our FEMA trailer on the family property but we are getting ready to buy a 21 Ft. Winnabago Vista (2004)  so we can arrive in style at GFMPH in Sept. Will call it the "Little Beast."

Hey Jim; good to hear from you. Yup, my dad and I used to fish Walker lake, and Lemon lake which are connected, and lay below the spillway from the Kitterlin lake dam. Dad and I used to fish the buttonwoods around the edge of the lake for white perch. Caught some nice ones too.....and occasionally we got skunked.

Rumor mill has it that a group of lawyers bought all the acreage around all three lakes. They sold much of the old growth cypress timber, and formed a hunting club. They also lease camper sites by the year that come with fishing rights, but the price is astronomical. Needless to say, in LaSalle, Grant, and Rapides Parishes, most folks cannot afford it. And most of the folks who could afford it refuse to join because there's so many other good fishing areas that are open to the public.

Anyway, let us know the next time you and Marie come to Pollock. We would love to have you guys over to the house.

kbota, I had a busy last 2 days and am just catching up, so know that I envy you your day with nature. Wish I could have those days again. Where I live now, there's no bream, or blueberries, so I'll enjoy thru your story.

Hey James C, the lake we fish at is just down the road from our home. It's 7100 acres. It's about 75% old growth cypress trees, and back water swamps. It's one of the most beautiful areas in the south, but only some of the locals know about it.

The blueberries come off the 20 BB bushes I have in the back. I had planted 3 different types of rabbit eye Blueberries. Each different type maturing at slightly different times, so we have ripe BB's from may through the end of June. I'll eat them by the handfuls from now until they are finished.

Kbota, we won't have any fresh blueberries here in the upper Midwest until late summer! In fact, the Plymouth, Indiana, Blueberry Festival is scheduled for Labor Day weekend. So, enjoy those fresh blueberries, but think of us blueberry-deprived folks up here.

My wife buys them year round 'cause we like them so much, but the fresh-picked ones are the best, and they're chock full of anti-oxidants.

What a great GFMPH fishing day that had to be. I am reading this post as I eat my daily bowl of fresh blueberries for breakfast. Mine are from Florida and are so big and plump. 

Are you going to make GFMPH Yankee Style this year?  Hope to see you again as my wife and I so enjoyed meeting you guys last month at Cajun Jeff's.

What a great topic this has turned out to be.

Its almost as if we are all back at Cajun Jeff's sitting around in that outside covered place he and his bride has and we are all just chatting about the little things in life that bring us joy.

Did I mention I really miss all you folks?

Yesterday Me and Mrs. Bud went to hang out with GiGi, her vocabulary - well ok sounds - has increased which is a treat. As soon as we get to GiGi's house GrandMa (Mrs. Bud) swoops her up in her arms and starts talking to her. Generally during our visit I'll get to hold GiGi for a few minutes before Grandma decides I'm doing something wrong.

GiGi's Mom gets home and GiGi squeals for her Mom. her little arms swing about. Tis than Grandma has to relinquish /her/ GiGi. What a beautiful sight, wife, daughter and daughters daughter. - BEAMS!

Life is good!

Our blueberries are from the local grocery store - I do enjoy them just about daily!

There is a rumor going around that you are thinking about hosting a GFMPH gathering, if so count me and Mrs Water Guy in.  We can call it GFMPH Southern Gentlemen style, well only if you are not there, Hahah. smilewinkgrin
