Maybe another reason for possible hi-jackings is that the writer/poster, doesn't want to start the topic (because it can be found searchable easily on the internet, in case some didn't know that, and that can have a long history on the net and other considerations to contemplate).
More examples of 'practicing medicine' (ignorance topic):
1) early history of PCa 1940's+ DES was found very useful in control for PCa, only they didn't screen people for blood clot risks (no tests), didn't use aspirin or warfarin (coumadin=blood thinners to prevent clots) and biggest of all, they gave to large of doseages at 5-mg (did cause some clots and a few people died using it), but still historically the drug worked very well and is still in use in 2012 and around the world (1-mg found very safe in general)
2) psa testings were not properly analyzed for velocity, doubling times and to high of threshold > (4.0) use to be the standard for biopsies for all age levels, thanks to Dr. Strum et al, the truth is now pretty much known, now
3) docs used to be expounding that scans were like totally definitive for the patients further prognosis, again Dr. Strum, Dr. Barken et al has set the record straight
