Aches and Pains and Breast swelling

Hello All
I thought it was time that I shared my feelings with fellow sufferers.
I was diagnosed with PC in February 2011:
At Diagnoses:
Age: 55
PSA 65
Gleason 4+4 (all 12 cores involved)
T3b N2 M1
Small bone mets, Seminal vesicles and Lymph Nodes (Para aortic nodes and Inguinal Nodes).

For treatment I opted to join a Trial. I started on Zoladex in February 2011 and for full androgen blockade I was started on Casodex 50mg in October 2011 to supplement the Zoladex. Since starting the hormone therapy I have complained to my Specialist about the additional aches and pains that I am suffering. My Specialist does not offer up any reason for the aches and pains but says it’s not due to the PC and not the treatment.
I mentioned that my breasts are getting quite large and painful. Response was “That’s just cosmetic PC will kill you”. For the sweats it was suggested that I take sage (it doesn’t work for me).

Gents am I being paranoid? Do any of you suffer the above due to the hormone therapy?
My PSA is still low but slowly rising.

For breast and hot flashed - thats a stated side effect of Zoladex.
Zoladex

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Zoladex:

Acne; breast tenderness; decreased sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; enlarged breasts; headache; hot flashes; loss of appetite; nausea; sweating; tiredness or weakness; trouble sleeping.

I've been on Eligard now for just over a year (every 3 months) - I do get the hot flashes and sweats. I have taken the approach of accepting those as proof the medecine is working.

What specific aches and pains? The specialist really should be addressing those with you.

Carlm,

Welcome to HW, sorry you need to be among us. You have some pretty serious stats, but hopefully what you are on will work in due time. I haven't been on HT myself, but thought some of the HT guys here talk about some med that helps with the breast swelling.

Hope you get some answers and some comfort from that, and the misc. aches.

Please let us know how you are doing.

I've been on Lupron/Casodex for nine months now, and I have breast swelling and occasionally it hurts. Sometimes when my wife hugs me, I have to push her away a little because of the sharp pain just under the nipples. Unfortunately, I'm not doing anything about it. Some days are better than others. I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has a "remedy".

I did have hips, joint and arm pains at one point. I would wake up in the morning and it felt like someone had punched me in the arms. I was on XGeva at the time which is a bisphosphonate designed to help protect my bones against the cancer. The doctor heard my woes and switched me over to a similar drug called Aredia and the pain went away, so it wasn't cancer pain but side-effects from the XGeva.

Except for the swelling in the breasts, I'm pretty much pain free right now.

been on Zolodex and Casodex for 5 months now.

I have mentioned in prior posts that I do have significant hot flashes and night sweats, nothing much to do about it other than buy lots of fans. it has actually gotten better in the past month. I have not had breast swelling which I attribute to exercise ( both cardio and weight lifting) and a low fat low cal diet.  My docs told me to keep alert to the breast swelling because its much easier to counteract if you get it early. But with the exercise program I have been fortunate on that score.

Have not had the aches and pains, but defintely battle the low energy/ fatigue SE.

I've been on Lurpron & Casodex for a little over a year now. First nine months was a breeze. No problems getting injections, very little few hot flashes. Of course the ED was and is a big problem. No pum intended.

Started having little aches and pains a couple of months ago. Sometimes worse then others. The joints in my hands have swelled and ache. My right hand more then my left. Looks a little wierd to. Elbow and knees ache as well. Nothing that I can't overcome. In fact I roofed my O/D kitchen I'm building yesterday. Just a little slower getting up and down the ladder. Dr. said that is normal and beats the alternative. Did have a second bone density test a couple of weeks ago. Still in the normal range but could tell a difference between my first and second test.
So you are not alone, but mention it to your Dr. on the next visit. He needs to know whats going on.
