I just received a call from Dr. Dattoli with my biopsy results.

Out of 52 cores he found 9 containing cancer. Don't know all the numbers yet but only 1 core had Gleason 7, the rest were all Gleason 6.

Doc says i am a good candidate and I have decided I will treat with DART and brachytherapy.

After almost 4 years and as many biopsies I guess I am thankful that I can move on to getting rid of this crap

Great to have a plan that brings you confidence. I had similar treatment and I know you will do well.

I know it's been a long road of uncertainty, but now you at least know. It looks like very low volume and your treatment should work out very well.

Greg, glad you finally have an answer.  Your treament plan sounds very reasonable, IMHO.

52 cores? sure there is anything left of your prostate that needs treating? lol. seriously, glad you found out, glad you have a game plan in place you are happy and confident about. best of luck, hope it works well for you.

I think you are making the right call with Brachy....You need however to find an expert in it.  You can't let just any jo-shmo do it to you.  You need to see someone with a proven track record.  I don't know where you live but there is a guy in Wheeling, WV named Gregory Merrick.  Look up "Merrick GS" on pubmed.com and you can find a bunch of studies he has put out.  He has a 14 year no BCR rate of something like 97.8%  If you are out west I would go to the Seattle Insititute for it.  Don't mess around with someone who can't tell you what their long term BCR rates are.

Chris R- thanks for the advise. The Dr I have chosen has 25 years of brachytherapy expierene and thousands of seed implants.

Looks like I will be headed to Sand lake for some scans. Dr Dattoli has ordered a USPIO enhanced MRI/fusion study and an 18-f fluoride pet scan.

I should be having those about October 1. Then DART treatments begin on October 10.

Dr Wants to get right to it. After years of waiting it seems as though things are progressing quickly now.

Greg - congrats at getting to your point of making a decision on your course of treatment - I know when I (recently) made my choice it was like a huge weight off of my chest, one of the milestones of this wonderful journey we are all on. I did a tremendous amount of research and Dattoli was right up there in my top couple of choices. I believe you made a great choice and am sure all will go well! Keep us posted!

Best wishes with you tratment decision. Please keep us posted about your experience with Datolli. He is very high profile, but few HW members have reported experiences with the clinic. It will be good to learn of yours.

I agree with Purg, after 52 cores is there any thing left in your prostate. smhair

Looks like you got 4 good years out of AS and the time has come to move forward with treatment. Good luck ans stay in touch.
