Eligard shot difficulty - actually Lupron

My husband went for his Eligard shot today and said they couldn't get it all in him. They tried three times and some went in but not the full dosage.
Edited to add: my husband puts lidocaine in the area where the shot will go. Today's nurse totally ignored this and put the shot outside of the area.
I am actually pretty angry that the nurse did not listen to him.
Anyone ever have a problem with this?
We will be talking with the doctor next month about this and probably getting the shot from his urologist - never had a problem there.

Eligard is much more difficult than Lupron, I have had several of each. The Eligard is very thick and takes a full minute to inject. My nurse always put an ice pack on the area of my belly for about 10 minutes before giving me the shot. It always worked. I am now on Lupron, which is a much thinner piquid using a very fine needle...much easier.

Thanks for the replies. My husband told me it was lupron he received yeserday and was always much easier till yesterday. A big problem yesterday.
I think he would have been more patient with the nurse a few years ago but he has been poked so much in the last year or so and I think he is just plain weary. I know everyone here can understand that. I do think we have to talk to the doctor about what happened. This is the second time a nurse has NOT listened to him about where a needle should go. He does know his own body; chances are the nurse does not.
Excuse my ranting and focus on this;it's a small blip in the grand scheme of things but like the straw that broke the camel's back.
He is taking a mental health day today. I'm glad.

My husband had his 3rd injection of Lupron yesterday, with the exception of a sore hip today and for a few days , he hasn't had any kind of reaction.

You mentioned he had Eligard in the past, and isn't that given in the stomach?

Where is he getting his Lupron injection, the hip?

Hope things get better, but rant all you want as I would be doing the same.

Sounds like the Eligard is a subcutaneous injection and I know the Lupron is an IM ( intramuscular injection). Lupron is usually given in the buttocks area. I recommend rotating sites each time an injection is given.

Sorry you are having some difficulties with the injections. Another glitch in the journey.

I've been getting Eligard every 3 months since last Aug. Always in the stomach and always at a angle.

Changing the injection without telling and not listening to the patient - Yes you two do have something to discuss with your doctor!
