2 year PSA and I'm still nervous

Hello all,

Paul has his next psa test coming up and it is the 2 year test.
The last test six months ago was a 0.01 which was great.
Funnily I am more nervous about this test than last time.
It's the 2 year thing - a significant milestone and I so want it to be good. Of course I cannot do anything about it, it will be what it will be. Still doesn't stop me thinking about it several times a day and he hasn't even had his blood test yet

The fact though is that we had our 10 year anniversary a week ago and I love him now more than I ever did, I think I appreciated him even more once he got diagnosed with PCa.

Oh An, just sending you a hug. We can all understand the PSA anxiety thing and that you are feeling even more nervous this time.
Easy for me to say I know, but do try and stay positive and believe all will be fine. When is he having his test, not too long a wait I hope.
Sending all positive vibes and good wishes for fantastic numbers and many, many more decades of blissfully happy times for you both!

I feel you, An. Hubby has one coming up and I am a mess, thinking of it constantly. I am doing my best to stop, because I know my worrying serves no purpose. Hang in there, you're not alone.

I feel for you too, An. We have one coming up in a few weeks, as well. In my husband's case, since his primary treatment was IMRT, we have to deal with the uncertainty of a rise six months ago and the hope that it was just the 'bounce effect'. Puts even more anxiety on this one.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your Paul!!

i just had my two year PSA and, as always, i expected bad news. the news was great and i think it will be for you guys too cool !

An38, wishing your husband 000000000000's on his PSA.
I know how you two must feel,my one year is up this thursday.I know I did my part by having the urologist remove my prostate so there really isn't anything else I can do to control the PSA results. So I'll just go to work and do the normal things I do and hope for the best.

An, I understand your anxiety. It doesn't seem to get easier, at least not for me. I'm having my 6 months PSA test in 2 weeks and hope to remain in the zero club. I wish your husband nothing but zeroes.

Well An it does get easier ---- about the 3 year mark I reckon shocked. After a 3 year string of <0.01 or 0.01 you do start to relax a little. Best wishes for the upcoming test.

Hi An,

I went though the same anxiety last month when Geoff had his 2 year psa; like you, for some reason I was really worried.  It turned out fine and I'm sure Paul's will also.  I'll send good thoughts your way and hope to see the results soon.  By the way, Geoff wasn't the least bit nervous!

Hi An,

Thinking of you and Paul at this stressful time. Hoping for the best as always, and understand your fears. Good luck & hope the time passes quickly for you. CJ's test is usually due each April. To be honest for the last 2 years I have started 'reminding' him about February each year. For the last 2 years he has taken the annual PSA early and not told me until he has had the blood taken because of my anxiety. That horrible fear is something very hard to control. Every spouse here understands. I doubt that many service providers actually do understand. I have developed a respectful 'distain' for the power of pathology over the last nearly 6 years!  It was about this time 6 years ago that CJ first had a PSA and then went on to be diagnosed in the December on his 49th birthday. He is now great as you know, thankfully.  Good luck with your 2 year test. Let us know. Keep your chin up, and congrat's on the 10 year anniversary to you both. I kept revisiting this post and rereading what you wrote over the last 10 days and it made me feel a whole lot better, so thank you.

Paul's results came back in at a 0.01. Bliss! Another six months of relief.

An, a big congrats to you both!

I can certainly relate to the anxiety of waiting. Just received my letter from the Uro two days ago that it's time for my next test, now 14 months since surgery (3 mos., 3 mos., 4 mos., 4 mos.) Hoping I'll get the OK to move to 6 months between tests this time.

@F8 - seems we're on just about the same schedule for testing. I recall seeing your post the last time I wrote about an upcoming test. Congrats on yours too.

That is such great news An, and now you can relax on that one. My husband just painted a room while I was away for the weekend, and was worried that I wouldn't like the colour recently. I told him as long as his PSA stays stable I couldn't care less what colour the walls were... and therefore of course I would like it (by phone). As it turned out, it is a great colour! And the logic of the whole conversation very odd when you think about it. But this whole situation changes one's priorities I find.

I find myself thinking very similarly sometimes - I find my priorities have changed. I enjoy small everyday moments with paul a lot more too.

An, I missed your original post, sorry. Beth and I were at DisneyWorld for a week and didn't do any reading on HW during that time.

I'm so glad to hear that Paul continues his run of low numbers. Now, if we could just get our golf scores to drop, too! Congratulations to both of you.

One of these years it would be great to have a PCa survivor's golf outing for all of us HW folks. I think there are quite a few golfers in the mix here. But where would be play? Australia? U.S.? Britain? It would end up costing as much as the cancer treatments did!

Clock, Paul would be right into that. Very keen golfer. The logistics would be tough though but you never know - maybe if you come down to Australia we can organize a get together.

Juliet, I felt I could breathe again. We were back to the path of an everyday, happy and ordinary life. No more worry about medical options and further PSAs and more doctors. It was a weight off.

An - it is silly and frustrating how we hang onto numbers so much - especially anniversaries of events in our lives -

here's to a wonderful two year anniversary - and to good numbers ( especially "zero-themed numbers" - PSA <0.10 - there is no such thing as an absolute zero).
-here's to another ten year anniversary ( the 20th) and even more after that...

-and many many hugs - from cyberspace and the real world ( even though the internet can be more real at times)

Thank you so much for the congratulations. It makes us fell extra special and so supported.

Bronson, you are right, objectively there is nothing to be gained by worrying and these anniversaries can take on too much significance. But the anxiety's hard to shake sometimes.
