I have a bottle of Metformin sitting in the cupboard.  Haven't pulled the trigger on it.

I'm taking 1 500 mg pill per day since March. Just went up from 1 per day to one and a half.
No problems. With the increase my appetite is slightly less.
I'm thinking if we take metformin for years, starting early, it might be as significant as an expensive med for 6 months.
I have no way of gaging its effectiveness on me.
Not all doctors will prescribe it.

Last year, my family doc put me on Metformin, 500mg twice a day, for high blood sugar (I prefer to call it "high blood pressure"....he calls it diabetes). I heard of this possible side benefit shortly after I started taking the Metformin.

My sister-in-law had breast cancer surgery last year and enrolled in a clinical study to see if Metformin might help suppress recurrence of breast cancer, but she had such severe and persistent diarhhea that she had to withdraw from the study.

I haven't noticed any side effects at all.

My blood sugar came back 113(70-105) after 1 year of HT.I have app. with my doc on Monday,and hope to discuss with him about Metformin.

I am calling BS on this one.  I took 2500mg of metformin a day for the past decade.  Did not seem to slow down me getting serious prostate cancer at age 58!!!

BTW, you CAN NOT take Metformin unless you have diabetes!  If a normal person takes it, he can have a low blood sugar coma and wake up brain dead!  I am not kidding!

There are currently more than 40 clinical trials involving metformin and cancer. Many of the participants do not have diabetes.
I have been on a small dose of metformin for a year with no problem. My blood glucose is not low on the medicine. I don't have diabetes.
