Yes, it has been wonderful!  Dr. Sartor @ Tulane said that him doing radiation in August is a bit out of the box, but since he had such a high gleason, PSA, etc., he wanted to see if we could take the bull by the horns with radiation as well.  It seems to have worked well ... may not last, but for now, it is much better than expected.

Thought this might give some hope to folks with a very high gleason.  Take care!

Woopie, indeed! Congrats of such low numbers, wishing you a lifetime of the same.

That is a great sign and your radiation has not even shifted into 5th gear yet, it takes time for radiation to do its best results. I got my nadir psa lowest level at 6 months out of radiation (checked them monthly) and was using ADT3 prior and after and I achieved .06 as my lowest in 2002-2003. You had a higher psa level and better result already....this looks very favorable, cheers!

That's fantastic Debbie! How long do they want to keep him on the ADT drugs? Might they take him off after a year or two and see how his PSA reacts? or not...

He started the radiation in August - Diagnosed in April - first Eligard shot in May along with Casodex. As far as side effects, very few really - occasional hot flash (but less than mine!); runny stools from the radiation and of course, the up and down moods - but nothing unmanageable. He had radiation to two spots in his spine from mets and his prostate.
The one urologist we went to said no to radiation .. but Dr. Sartor (prostate cancer specialist at Tulane) said to do it - so we did. Looks like it was the right decision. Dr. Sartor says that it is "out of the box" thinking to do radiation at this stage, so that is probably why your Dr. said no.
