I am sure there are very good doctors in Germany, just as there are many good doctors in the United States (and in Australia, and Canada, and the UK, and Israel, and many other places). So Antonio has a choice of destinatations, assuming he does not want to be treated in his home country. On the issue of staying longer in a hospital, as inGerman suggests, rather than a hotel -- that is not necessarily a better thing. First, many patients are happy to leave the hospital when it is safe for them to do so. Second, there is the possibility of infections in hospitals -- even excellent ones -- so staying extra time in the hospital, when you could be in a hotel or home, is not necessarily a good thing. I understand that many non-US patients have been referred to Dr. Vipul Patel, in Florida, and that he has done an enormous number of robotic prostatectomies. If you are planning to come to America, get in touch with Dr. Vipul Patel in Celebration, Florida. He has Spanish speaking associates working for him as well.
Many patients come to him from South America and he has done more Da Vinci surgeries than anyone in the world. He has currently performed over 5,500 surgeries, and I am one of them.

Across the street from the Celebration Health Hospital where he works out of, there is a real nice hotel that I stayed at after my surgery until the catheter was removed. It has a full kitchen in every room and a seperate bedroom. A great place to spend the first week in recovery. I didn't go after my surgery but Disney World is also only 5 miles away also.

Google him and you can also see many videos of him on Youtube both doing interviews and performing surgeries. I didn't watch any of them until After I had my surgery.

He is The Man and he does have a dream team working with him!

SOONER - There have been published reports about old(er) machinery/technology used in these countries. Not sure how true or how extensive, but if true, needs to be part of the equation.

Yes, like my surgeon went to Israel to perform the first ever robotic PCa surgery there. They go there to train them and introduce the technique. Why go with the trainee?

A ton of Americans go to Colombia for eye surgery as it is much cheaper. It's an industry in Colombia and I know a few people who have gone and have not had issues. But it's also a well established fact that these surgeries are performed on used machines bought from America after American institutions have upgraded them with better ones. Colombia is also famous for what are called "budget plastic surgeries". If I'm having any sort of meaningful surgery, I'm looking for the best, safest and most proven, not the budget variety. Understood that that may be just me.

There is also the issue of maintaining the machines. This is certainly important if not critical. Doing so is not only expensive, but requires frequent parts being updated. There have been reports of these parts not being readily available in many developing nations.

I'm certainly no flag waving American. In fact, I'd prefer to live in Europe and am even considering living in India for work. But if I have to have surgery there is no place on the planet I would select (given the option) other than America.
