I had another opportunity to tell people in my community about the Cancer “Wall of Hope” and the cancer/fitness support program we are launching (early 2013) last Friday morning at the Y’s Annual Community Leadership Breakfast . PHO TO We now have 4 “stories” framed on the “Wall” (my own included). After telling Elaine’s “story” and mine to the audience of community leaders, donors and volunteers, I pointed out that almost everyone has someone close —a spouse, child, parent, sibling, or close friend, or maybe themselves— who has dealt with cancer , and so I asked them to contribute their own story of hope and inspiration to the “Wall" so that others who follow in their footsteps may be inspired with hope .

I agree with those sentiments, as it would be hard to know anyone that hasn't been directly or closely effected by cancer, or with a loved one with cancer in some form.
Hope is what is all about
, even if a situation seems hopeless.

That just warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Your wife was a beautiful women physically and from what you said it sounds as if she was beautiful inside as well. I am sure your thoughts and WALL OF HOPE will bring strength and hope to many many people. What a fantastic memorial!
Hugs,
Susan

In my opening posting in this thread, back in October, I wrote about the cancer support programs which I sought to enable; I wrote in the 4 th paragraph: The gift from our family provided in Elaine’s memory will bring the resources of the Y and Wellness Place together to provide new programs of support for our community of cancer victims and their families which are rooted in the healing benefits of exercise. I hope that my neighbors and friends, or the neighbors of my friends (people I don't even know, but live in my community), will benefit from this local effort. I'm pleased to announce that the new program structure was formally communicated this week a release memo ( %3C strong%3E %3C /strong%3E %3C strong%3E %3C /strong%3E -us2/wp-in-the-news/wp-in-the-news2/wellness-place-restructures-programming-for-2013-new-eat-breathe-move-theme-illustrates-commitment-to-holistic-healing#idetfcyuy7DyGLk7soS9mLqg" rel=nofollow target=_blank> READ THIS ). The program is based on the theme of the holistic lifestyle choices which have been repeatedly and consistently shown to be beneficial to cancer patients — “Eat, Breathe, Move.” “Eat” will, of course, stress nutritional information specific to cancer patients. “Breathe” will help patients learn about stress management. “Move” will incorporate healthy exercise into daily life of patients. I’m thrilled to see these ideas becoming a reality! The programs will be publicized in 2013 for cancer patients in my community, including the cancer information area which exists as part of the “Wall of Hope” at the YMCA where the exercise ( “Move” ) programs will be offered. I was pleased to participate, this morning, in the “re-dedication” of the “Wall of Hope” at the YMCA. The “Wall” was originally dedicated in October a year ago, and due to success and growing interest the Y has decided to have an annual “re-dedication” ceremony. The first posting in this thread (from last year) tells a bit of the background. 50 or so people jammed into the narrow hallway this morning for brief comments from the Y’s Executive Director, the Program Director from the nearby Wellness Place (cancer support center) and me. I talked about how the “Wall” came into being, the importance of lifestyle choices while fighting cancer, and how I was pleased that a growing number of Y members were contributing their own stories of hope and inspiration to the “Wall.” Photo from this morning ( LINK ) at the “Wall of Hope.” This year, the ceremony attendees wrote the names of people with cancer who inspired them or gave them hope on Post-It Notes and stuck them on the wall around the permanently mounted stories (the Post-Its are mostly cut-off from this photo) so that everyone could actively participate. The joint YMCA / Wellness Place programs are continuing to multiply…there is basically a new program about every month or so now, which all grew out of my initial reach-out 18 months ago to these two community organizations to work together on wellness (collaboratively offering exercise, nutrition and stress relief classes) for local cancer patients. I am thrilled to see it continue to grow and expand… Post Edited (Casey59) : 10/30/2013 11:12:07 AM (GMT-6)

Casey, this is really wonderful. What a terrific idea and it must be doubly gratifying to you to see the growth and expansion of your original concept. Congratulations and well done!
