bad weekend

Mark this weekend as official horrible in my shop.

Last night I got a bad case of the shivers and shakes following by a period of fever and sweating. Then my heart started racing and I've devolved a word class head ache. My ears hurt, my throat is sore and even my hemorrhoids are acting up.

At one point I was afraid I had picked up an infection. Then I wondered if my heart was going wonky - you know how your mind plays on you when you don't know what is wrong. I was a wreck by the time I got the advice nurse on the phone. She decided I needed to be seen but didn't need to go to the ER. She did find me an urgent care doctor to see today. When she was looking at my medical record she said, "You have prostate cancer?" "Yes," I replied but told her that I doubt this had anything to do with that.

Well the doctor did an exam and after looking in my ears and nose declared that I have a virus (and poking and prodding everywhere he could saying, does this hurt?). He said there was a lot of inflammation there. He also said I was a bit dehydrated which is why my BP and heart rate were acting up. So he gave me a prescription for some nose spray to help the inflammation, a note for work - he wants to stay home till Wednesday, and the advice to "drink more water."

Given my description of event he was sure that the fever broke last night and he doubted that I had anything else going on.

So instead of being able to play in my workshop I got to spend a sick day on the couch and part of the day at the hospital.

It could be worse but here's my official notice that I don't like today.

dude i've been sick for a week.  i have a brand new $2300 lens and i'm not even mildly interested in using it.  i've already gone through two large bottles of pepto bismol and tons of aspirin.

i don't think it's PC related, tho cool .

Andrew, my friend, so sorry to hear you having such a sucky time. This is my 2nd weekend in a row, of having to stay home and tend to my ailing wife. I feel for you, hopefully you will be on the mend soon.

At least you know it's not anything serious, and you have an excuse for some additional babying. Sounds like you've got a good Sunday for a movie marathon, or a good book.

Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Whatever this thing is that I got seems to be passing through fast. I spent most of yesterday watch reruns of "The Red Green Show" and "Adam-12." Spent a good portion of this morning doing the same.

about lunch time I felt good enough to wander out into the shop to do some glue ups on Christmas present I am working on. I figure by tomorrow my wife will decide that I am healthy enough to wash the dishes...

Now I have me tea and settling down to write my write my weekly blog post but decided to poke in this forum for a bit before I get started on that.

The good thing is that I've got a doctor's note saying to say home from the office until Wednesday. The bad thing is whatever this thing is has set off my hemorrhoid and sitting isn't much fun at the moment.

Soory to hear your not feeling well. It's bad when you don't feel good enough for the shop. Especially when time is short before Christmas!

so true and I've got a ton of Christmas gifts left to make (down to just under ten I think). Part of the good news today is that I am still waiting for one shipment of wood before I can start the last stretch of gift making so I've got a few days to rest.

The other good news is that whatever that weird nose spay is the doc gave me it works. Today I had no headache and most of the bad symptoms are gone. I did sneak out to the shop for a couple of hours after dinner but now that feels like an hour too long.
