Nocturnal Erections

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. I get great nocturnal erections, most of the time wake up so hard it hurts, But during the day and evening Zilch, Zero, Zip, Nada. I take 5mg daily dose Cialis, I have tried varying the times I take it from early in the morning to right before bed, but still the same results. My wife is getting a little tired of being woke up in the middle of the night for some activity... LOL

If ever there was a sign for recovery then it is nocturnal erections. It certainly shows that things are functional. I started with nocturnals within a few months of surgery and certainly long before any response during the day. My nocturnals were only partial but were a clear sign of natural activity.

The "daily dose Cialis" AFTER surgery is designed to get blood to flow to Mr Pee Wee to keep him healthy and alive....Not to mention keep him in shape..

Odds are that at almost three years - you could stop the rehab work.

Hi Hunter. At this point, I'd love to have your problem. After 20 years of diabetes and the HDR brachy early this year, my ED was complete. I tried all the pills, to no effect, so my uro put me on injections. They work great, but damage spontaneity. He did say, though, that the injections might jump-start normal function.

I had ONE, count them, one, very good middle-of-the-night woody a couple weeks ago, just before I went to see him for a standard follow up and PSA reading. He was happy that I had the one and said I should go back on daily Cialis - I stopped that when we moved to injections. He said any nocturnal function, especially a firm one, was a strong indicator that the equipment still functions.

Every injection leaves a tiny scar and he believes it is much better to use pills if they work, so he's highly in favor of seeing if we can get me off the shots.

So congratulations on being able to function during the night. My guess is that you're going to be just fine with a little time. Best wishes.

BTW, I'm wondering if some of my daytime, eyes-open, trouble is psychological. With my diabetes, I was already apprehensive about performance before the radiation. I've been considering speaking with a professional on the mental side of this problem.

A good night time woody is pretty good evidence of better things to come. Are you talking about natural errections, or those induced by ED drugs?

Hunter as they say, never look a gift boner in the eye. If one can obtain a night time errection, means the working parts inside are working. I was one of the lucky few, that had zero ED issues post surgery. Had the opposite problem, of having rock hard ones while still on the catheter(s). I spent the first 63 days after surgery on a constant catheter. I sometimes wonder if all that cath time allowed some extra special healing time, or did I simply win the "lottery" on that subject. My surgeon is a modest man, and to this day, takes no claim to my good fortune. He thought it wasn nothing short of a medical miracle. His intent going into my surgery - was a non-sparing, wide margin op - due to the significance and location of the cancer. His plan worked on the left side, but due to an anatomy issue in my prostate bed and some surgical problems - was not able to removed the right nerve bundle. On the surgical report - itwas listed as "intact but damaged". It's amazing that I have had full normal natural errections right from the start, considering there is only the one set of damaged nerve bundles at play. Makes no sense, but who would complain? I have honestly never used any ED meds, no VED devices, no injections, etc.
When my surgeon was about to start his "ED Talk" to me 3 months out of surgeon, I had to cut him off short, and said "Dr. so and so, I don't have any issues". The look on his face was priceless. He didn't expect my lack of any ED for a second, but of course he was happy for me.

I wish more men had my fortune in that department. My wife and I fully went into the surgery expecting full and perm. ED, and we were prepared for it as a couple. 3 years out of radiation, and it has had no effect on my errections either (kept expecting post radiation issues to pop up). While the faulty radiation so badly damaged my bladder and bladder neck, it's amazing it didn't damage that one existing nerve bundle that's controlling the errections.

You never know what you get with PC, or surgery, its a crap shoot at best. We have guys here that had high buck -big name surgeons with complex nerve sparing ops - that have long term and severe ED issues even 2 years out, I don't think it means their surgeons sucked or scewed up - I just think these issues are just so unique from patient to patient, case by case, there are no guarantees.

My first night time stirrings occured about 3 or 4 days after catheter removal. Not a full woodie or even half, but junior tried. As soon as I got awake enough to check him out though, he ducked back into his shell. He was a little gunshy I reckon. about a week after that, I awoke to find him pretty much standing tall. Still it didn't last very long when I started looking at him. It was a great relief to at least know everything was mechanically sound. I knew then, that he might indeed fully recover.

During the day, trying to get him to react was difficult if not impossible at first. For the next two weeks I could only manipulate him into half mast. A week after that, I convinced the wife to lets just play around a bit to see what he would do and even though he barely achieved half mast status, I did get my first dry orgasm. I actually was kinda mentally afraid of it because I did not know what to expect. When it was all over there was all kinds of relief mentally. After that, his performance increased by leaps and bounds. Within a week he was responding to manipulation with ease. I couldn't drive nails with him, but, he was 75% there.

After another week or so, he was pretty much back to normal. Just a little difficult to start, and his duration was not quite what it used to be. But it did improve each instance.

The doctor gave me some Cialis samples just to see what happens, even though I told him I was fine without them. The Cialis does help. Like the guys with the Trimix, I started very slow. Matter a fact the first time, I just took the pill and licked it. Wife thought I was crazy, but I was a little scared of the pill to tell the truth. After that I cut a little more and a little more until I discovered that 1/2 of a pill in the morning will launch me into John Henry status that afternoon. I am a steel driving man.

With the pill, I find that junior will respond now to visual and mental stimulus. Whereas without it, he will not. So, now about 4 months post surgery, I am exactly where I was before.

Things I did note. My ability to have erections improved as I got away from wearing the tight Depends and went to looser pads. Coincidence or not, I do not know. My hoodie look also improved when I got out of the Depends it seems. And when I completely did away with pads, again performance improved. I suppose it is a sign more of the complete area recovering together rather than a cause and effect, but I can't prove it either way.

Like some noted above, sleeping sans drawers, seems to encourage the nightly woodies, or at least it did in my case.

So my pattern of recovery mirrors some of the others, only it happened much faster.

I started getting nocturnal erections at about the two year mark post robotic surgery and continue until present.   I will wake up with a rock solid erection almost every morning, and I mean rock solid, but as soon as I get out of bed , within 30 seconds, it's gone, nada, nothing.  

I am 61 yers old and 5 1/2 years post op from robotic surgery, and basically I have now ED issues and can get good usable full rock solid erections without any drugs, but with one stipulation.  I have to have continual self or partner assisted  manual stimulation to get and maintain an erection.  As long as I have the manual or vaginal stimulation, I can keep an erection for hours just like I could when I was younger.  If the stimulation stops, then within 30 seconds the erection is completely gone.  Visual and mental stimulation doesn't seen to function any more.  I can look at at a naked woman and think about sex , but feel; nothing down there until I get some actual physical stimulation

Now if I take 100mg of viagra, then it is a different story.  I still need the manual stimulation to get the erection, but if the stimulation stops, I can still maintain an erection for a few minutes before it dissipates.
