Epidermal Cyst

An epidermal cyst, or sebaceous cyst, is a sac beneath the outer layer of the skin that is filled with a cheeselike, greasy material (sebum). These cysts most often appear on the scalp, ears, face, back, or scrotum and are caused by plugged ducts at the site of a hair follicle.

Signs and symptoms include a bump or lump under the skin that is:

Firm and easily moveable. (fits me well)

Yellow, white, or flesh-colored. It can turn bright red if injured, inflamed, or infected.

Painless (but can be painful if injured or infected).

Between 0.4 in. (1 cm) to 1.6 in. (4 cm) in diameter, although hormone stimulation or injury may cause a cyst to become larger.

Medical treatment is usually not needed if the cyst does not cause symptoms. A cyst can be removed if its appearance causes embarrassment or if it becomes injured or infected. If the cyst is infected, antibiotics may be used.

ISSUE: - it's located "on" Mr Pee Wee. And it's Blue in color. It's been there forever. I always thought it was a blood vessel. My URO poked at it once and didn't say a word... But, it has gotten larger this week. It's about the size of an eraser pulled out of a #2 pencil.

It's not painful, but I'd say that I'm now aware of it's presents.

Above it mentions "hormone stimulation or injury may cause a cyst to become larger." Wonder if my T Meds would fall into that category?

Seems like others here have had this on their scrotum...

If were anywhere else on my body, I'd grab a safety pin and poke it to drain it

I have never had a cyst there.   But, I have had one on my back for years. It has gotten smaller in recent times. My wife and I have wondered why .. speculating maybe the Lupron made it shrink?? We have no idea. I have another relatively new one on my finger, near my fingernail. It is uncomfortable and is causing a groove in my fingernail. I just saw a hand surgeon and will be scheduling outpatient surgery to have that cyst removed.

My understanding on cysts: they will not typically go away, even if drained. They will just refill. That has been my experience. The small sac or enclosure needs to be surgically removed, if it needs to be resolved.

That is tough pace to have one. I would consult the uro and definitely not just start poking and draining it. There is a risk of infection and that is really bad place to have an infection. Part of the reason I am having the one removed on my finger is the proximity to my knuckle .. not a good place to think about an infection.

A dermatologist would normally address a cyst. My dermatologist does not recommend removing them unless they cause a problem. But, for example, I would never let a dermatologist remove one off my finger. I suspect I would feel the same way about the penis. To be cover all your bases, I would run it by both of them.

Sebaceous cyst, not that it matters, is probably the correct term. Its really amazing the things you can find on the internet.

One guy used Wart Remover to kill the outer skin... Many guys self medicate/remove the darn things themselves. Some had great luck - others got into trouble.

Me, I'm gonna try applying a heated wash towel to the area for a while. Apparently that helps shrink it and the junk inside gets absorbed back into the body.

I have a couple of them. One on my stomach that hasn't changed much in 10 yrs. so I leave it alone. Another on my left butt cheek that is about the size of a normal prostate. You can bet that I leave that one alone. I may have something done in the future, but for now, If it doesn't bother me, I won't mess with it.

However , for your own peace of mind, I would have Willie's cyst looked at. Hot compresses may bring it to a head, but removal is permanent, where popping is not. It will just come back.
