Lots of Pain in infected staples

Update: The Dr chose not to remove the cath or his staples. Seems he has gotten an infection in the lower abdomen staples. More antibiotics. The ride to Memphis (2 hrs) was a killer for him. We try again next Tues.



Tim is in alot of pain and the hydro's are not working, even at 2 every 4 hours.
The pain is mainly from the infected areas in the staples and the cath. The area of infection is in the crease of the stomack and groin area.

confused Question: Is the leaking from the infected areas a good thing? There is no foul smell but the area is red, sorta a light brown color fluid. Should we be cleaning it with hydrogen or an antibiotic cream?

I will be calling the dr tmw for both concerns but wanted to hear from those that have went through it themselves.

He is on Sulfa and Amox for the infection.

Keeping the area clean is good, but I would not use hydrogen peroxide unless the doctor says ok. I had some leakage, but not at the level you describe. I was told to just let water run over the area, absolutely not to scrub at all.

If it were me, I would be on the phone right now to the surgeon's on-call service to get advice.

TG, when my husband had his surgery, the urologist gave us instructions for keeping the incisions clean (warm, soapy water, no pressure from the shower, just soak a washcloth in clean water and squeeze over the incisions to remove the soap), plus antibiotic ointment on both the incisions and around the catheter entering the penis. Husband had staples and catheter in 10 days with never a problem.

I would get on the phone with the doctor now and not wait until Monday to call, especially if Tim is on antibiotics but still in alot of pain.

I have read that hydro. perox. is NOT good to put on wounds. It actually hurts tissue.

But on something like this, I would absolutely check with the doctors!

I callled the oncall nurse. She said that the hydros 10-50 should be strong enough for the pain. Said to add tylonol for fever. If not better this afternoon go to the ER. At least call dr in the morn as he may want to see him before Wed.
