Update on Zimac

First let me thank everyone who reached out with prayers for my wonderful husband. His brain surgery went well and he is laughing, smiling and giving everyone a hard time already.

Now for the unfortunate news. Bob's prostate cancer has spread to his brain. There was a 1% chance of spread to the brain and our Oncologiist who is the chief for years at Sloan Kettering in N.Y.C. has only treated approximately 10 cases of prostate cancer in the brain in his career. His explanation is that patients are living much longer with aggressive PCa so they are seeing lots more complications now.

Tomorrow morning Bob will be having an MRI because they removed the bleed along with the tumor and they need to be assured that there are no other problems.

So again, I ask for your prayers. Thank you all for your support, love, compassion and prayers. The road is tough and will be tougher in the days ahead, but I can assure you that we will NEVER give up the fight.

if he's able to laugh and smile and give people a hard time already, at least we know the bleed itself and the surgery to address it didn't cost him his personality or spirit, and this man is a tough man, to take a hit like that and pop back up smiling. I'm sure there were tears and fears too, that had to be a punch in the gut to hear, but you have a lot going for you. Two strong people who have each other, and a whole bunch of us out in the ether pulling for you.

He's a true warrior and a fighter beyond belief. He is already being transferred out of the ICU because, I quote, "he is doing phenomenal." Everyone here at the hospital calls him a crowd pleaser. He's makes it so easy to love him.

The good news is that the tumor /bleed that was critical was removed. The bleed was caused by the Lovenox (blood thinner)he was on for the blood clots he had in the lungs. Maybe that's too much information. Don't want to scare anyone who may be on the drug or consider using it. We are just blessed that it was caught in time as it was quite large and often fatal. Now we will be waiting for our next plan of action.

I think you can contact the family of Howard Hansen (founder of www.hrpca.org), I believe they are part of the yahoo groups thing (search for it), Howard had brain radiations atleast twice from what I heard, his wife and/or son have been envolved in advocacy things since he passed, not long ago. They might be able to tell you alot about this area of PCa and treatments. Hope you can have quality of life along the way.

Three month doubling time (summer 2011).

PSA rose from .07 on 06/11 to .17 on 11/11.

10/11 Moved management of my case to Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City

MRIs and bone scans negative so far.

Started hormone therapy (Lupron/Casodex) 12/11

Began radiation (SRT) 02/20/12.

Finished SRT 04/16/12

Last Lupron shot 03/12

07/12 PSA and testosterone "undetectable" 

01/13 PSA “undetectable”; testosterone (T) level at 452 ng/dl

Next set of tests July 2013.  Currently receiving no treatment

Zimac, Terry called me today and gave me the news. I'm so sorry to hear this new complication. As someone already posted you need to take care of yourself as well.

Know that we are all your friends and praying for you guys.

Chris sent me a couple of pictures on thursday evening, one of their beautiful family all about Bob in the hospital bed.

Great news he was smiling wide in the picture.

PS Chris I let Jennifer and Frank (Gigi's Parents know) Gigi's Uncle Bob is in the hospital and Auntie Chris is taking care of him. They also send their prayers and love. I'm sure Gigi would also - but she is not yet a year old and was busy playing with her Mommie's Birthday ballon.

I'm happy to read that he is doing fantastic. You're phenomenal also! Sweet dreams in a real bed.
