Cialis as replacement for Flomax

I just finished my HDR brachy at UCLA and during my follow-up appointment, my doctor recommended using Cialis instead of Flomax for urinary problems. He said that Cialis was somewhat better than Flomax on the urinary side, plus the daily dose can be helpful in regaining potency. (My oncologist, Dr Lam, had already prescribed 5 mg/day of Cialis for just that reason when he started my hormone therapy.)

Has anyone else heard of using Cialis for urinary issues? Is there some science behind this or was this a one-off comment my doctor was making?

Your Doc knows what he's talking about. I am about 12 months post-LDR brachytherapy. When I take Cialis, I have absolutely no urinary issues at all. It's like I'm 14 again, whereas it's just ok with the FloMax. I can't seem to ween myself off the FloMax w/o ending up with urinary problems. I just wish the Cialis wasn't so expensive...it'd be useful for killing two birds with one stone ! tongue

My friend's husband had trouble with flomax and was quite surprised when his doctor switched him to Cialis. According to my friend, it has helped his urinary problems and given his spirits a lift to boot!

Doesn't Cialis work the same way as Viagra?

Michael,

I plan on talking to my URO/RO at my next appt. about switching my med from Flomax to Cialis.

Thanks for this input and again this website (HW....PCa) is great for info exchange.

To those who have switched from flomax to cialis, did you need to ween off the flomax or take both for a while or just switch over from flomax to cialis?

I'm presently taking flomax (0.4mg daily) and just got a 30 day supply of 5mg daily cialis. Not sure how to switch over.

Any help would be appreciated.

You don't have to ween off Flomax.

Flomax is now packaged with dutasteride in a single pill called Jalyn for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). You can continue taking Flomax or Jalyn along with Cialis. They all work in different ways. Be careful about getting up too fast.
