First PSA since Lupron shot December 10th - Is it good or not?

We went for an oncology appointment today. PSA had dropped to 1.3 from 29.5. While that seemed great at first, I notice that others have PSAs during treatment of .0 something. Will it keep dropping? Is this good, bad or indifferent

Argh!!! I never know what I am talking about.

His moncytes absolute were high too. Whatever that is?????

little,,,that sounds good to me....my first one went from 94 to 56....then to 17 and eventually down to .04 but it took awhile.

Thanks Casper. It just seems you think you get good news and then you find out it isn't quite so good. We were told one day no bone mets and the next day they called to say they had reviewed the bone scan and it was POSITIVE for bone mets. What a crash that was!

A drop of 28 in less than 60 days sounds very good. My uro did not test me for 3 months, saying that it would not be useful. My GP did a PSA, and it was headed down from 5.2, but at 30 days out was not yet undetectable. That was seen at 90 days out.

Sounds like you should be very pleased with those numbers.

Looks like it's only been a few weeks so that seems like a good response in a short period of time. So, with the hormone therapy the goal is to get testosterone under 20 or so. Did they check his testosterone level?

Not sure what monocytes are?

Yay.....thanks everyone. We weren't going to get his PSA tested for a few more months but he had some other symptoms that required some other blood work so they did the PSA too.

The uro does not think that the bone pain in his hip and weak legs are related to the bone mets but is doing some tests to see what else is up. Urine test too as he has been passing blood.

Jerry - I am not sure if he tested testosterone or not. Will need to check on that

Seems like a great response to HT to me!

If I recall correctly, husband's dropped from 57 to 18 in the first month. To get to .02 took 18 months. Seems like the last mile was the longest. :)

Monocytes= Monocytes are circulating blood leukocytes that play important roles in the inflammatory response, which is essential for the innate response to pathogens. (I see it is linked to dendritic cells, which is part of the puzzle in PCa).

Your psa may drop further, sometimes LHRH drugs can take like 3 months plus or minus to reach lowest levels. I did ADT3 neo. adj. to radiations (denied surgery by DR. Menon with stats comparable to yours and psa of 46.6, back in 2002), anyway my ADT3 hit lowest point after 3 months of useage.

There are many things to monitor besides psa levels (as that is not the most accurate gage overall, but is a useful tool). Hope you have looked into various HT therapies because you may have to choose other options at some juncture. (see. www.hrpca.org) Best to your results.

I went from 59 to zero in about 90 days. My docs said it wasn't worth testing sooner than that and all predicted the drop to undectable.
