confused I have been on and off Chemo and finished radiation 6 years ago....
Zytiga and Xtandi didn't work at all.
Back on Jevtana 2nd time assuming it will help (my cancer spread to my bones)
however, after two treatments my PSA went from 660 to 11,000 in less than 2 months. DR said he thought it meant my cancer cells were being killed off. The other thing I found was high PSA surges in up to 15% of chemo patients can happen during the first 2-3 treatments. Lab testing error was ruled out.

I had another PSA done today, results on Monday, 3/4/13.. I am apprehensive. DR says don't worry.

I have no pain at all. Bone pain was unbearable in my back arms and shoulder blad over a month ago.

I wonder whether, with cancer at your stage, there are other tumor markers that would be more useful than PSA -- or at least useful along with PSA -- in measuring progress, such as PAP, CEA, CTC, etc. I don't have expertise, but maybe worth asking your doctor. Best wishes, Medved

Thanks, the labs show no organs or vitals affected. Apparently tumor markers are ambiguous and not accurate, thanks Medved. Still more to be explored.

Did you mean your PSA dropped from 11,000 to 660 in 2 monthes, the reverse of what you posted? That would make more sense if the Dr. stated that he thought the cancer cells were being killed off.

I know that Dr.Myers sends samples from his advanced patients to Caris. They analyze tissue in order to see which type therapy would perhaps slow your disease down. It is more of an individualized approach to treatment. I am not sure if insurance covers this, but perhaps would be worth asking your oncologist and obtaining a sample.

I think he posted the numbers in the proper order. Im thinking the doctors thinking the dying cancer are pushing out there final gasp as the increasing antigens round them up. Hey, what do I know, Im just a caveman lawyer, tee hee.

John Allen, during the 6years of chemo has your PSA always been so high? I find these numbers very confusing as one would expect one's PSA to lower a month after treatment.

6 yearss later, age 58 under HT only: PSA 2.5, no surgery possible but tumor remains stabile after 6 years.

Wow, high PSA. Been on similar path for husband and actually found this site when looking for information on Jevtana. Didn't get any here, but the experience has been good.

He started on Taxotere at the end of 2011 to Zytiga - to Jevtana (7 treatments) than now to Xtandi. Treatments may have been changed to quickly, but all seem to have failed. Multiple increasing mets, little pain, and so far not in organs - just lungs and bones.

Would be interested in your se from Jevtana. Hope you good results on Monday, glad no pain.

three and half years of chemo, 47 IMRT radiation doses started it all 6 years ago.

The high PSA only occured recently..... from 660 to 11000 in a very short time.....Previous high was under 200. Remember the cancer spread through my bones and my bones only. Labs are normal with vitals and all organs.
Monday may tell the story. My Oncologist said if high reading was accurate I would not be feeling well at all and would be experiencing complications.
I am also on Lupron and Xgeva injections with Prednisone.

Hi John Allen,
How are you doing? In your previous post, did chemo keep your
Cancer into remission bcos you were on it for 3 years or so? My dad also has Bone mets and is under going chemo...
