I think the argument that "just because a surgeon has 5000 surgeries doesn't make him/her a great surgeon" misses the point.
My view is both the sheer number of surgeries and skill of the surgeon are almost equally important - in different ways. A doctor doing 5000 surgeries won't make a "bad" surgeon "good" but is sure doesn't hurt does it? Of course, there are doctors who do 100 surgeries with excellent results but I feel this is rare. It is very difficult for a layman to understand the entire PCa journey without some sort of guide (forums, studies, and so on). If training is lacking for the DaVinci and a surgeon needs X amount of surgeries to become proficient there should be standards. To my knowledge there are no standards at present. Someone correct me if I am wrong please.
Men should know both answers from prospective surgeons before deciding (and the answers should to contain information on positive surgical margins, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, etc. from the surgeon).
