Is it just my doctor or do all of them do it.

I can't walk in my uro's office without someone asking for a cup of urine.

The best one was when I came to get my cathater out and they wanted a sample than. I laughed at them.

Is this necessary or are they just trying to make a little on the side from the insurance company.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like just your doc. I'll bet there is a standing order that all patients are asked for a sample. My uro hasn't asked for one yet.

But I do remember my father's advice: "Never accept a drink from a urologist."

In most urology practices, it's standard procedure. They are looking for blood. It's as simple as that. Finding blood justifies a whole string of procedures that keep them in business and hopefully leads them to the reason you are in their office to begin with...

My URO always asks for a urine sample too. And three years after surgery when too much blood in the urine was detected it was determined that one the staples was being rejected by my body. Another quick and lite surgery to remove that and all has been well.

Hate to think about how bad things might have gotten without the urine test.
