Just got back from Urologist office - surgery decided (PET SCAN RESULTS IN)

Sorry i am so slow posting. We are heading back to Canada today after 6 months in AZ and yesterday was a blur of cleaning/packing and other duties required for closing up the house.

Flight is in a few hours.......

thanks, also to susan and special lady. got what we wanted on the scan. it was more likely to be clear than not, according to my doctor, but you never know till you look. this takes the PC side pressure off me for now, while we deal with my other issues. I am still in the mess I am in, not because of PC directly, but as the result of treatments to stop the PC, seems kind of an ironic tradeoff.

thanks. my chronic pain issues are the results of failed and failed treatments, not directly because of the cancer. my oncologist has said many times, that there are cases like mine, where post surgery and post radiation failures, he has seen PSA up to 100 without any sign of mets. This seems to be my situation, so we will continue to "observe", and when and if additional treatments are warranted, we will do them.

until then, got to still live with my diminished QOL with all the pain and fatigue, that's my reality.

will be nice when this groin lump is removed, and hopefully found to be benign.

Had my pre-op done this past Friday for next Thursday surgery. Just took an hour, nothing special to report. May have to be at the hospital at 6 AM, which is unthinkable in my world, lol, as surgery slated for 8 AM, will be my surgeon's first show of the day. Wife is going to take half day off from work, once I am home, I will simply rest, not expecting it to be a big deal.

Still waiting on my oncologist to see if he can get me referred to bladder specialist at Duke. And to see about a referral to a local pain specialist. Haven't gotten answers back on either of them yet.

Hope Ron is holding is own with his issues.

Had too busy a weekend. Sold my sailboat, and spent all Saturday cleaning and getting it all together. Took me all day. Today, we drove to Asheville NC and back to make delivery. New owner was thrilled, but after he left, despite my careful prep, I realize I left an important piece in my shed. Now I am either going to see if I can ship it (kind of a long part), or I may have to meet him again. Feel bad about it, for him and for me.

thanks, devasted, not worried about the small surgery, just needing the assurance that the other rare cancer doesn't pop its ugly head up again in my life. for starters, if it were, they would not be able to radiated it, as was done on the 3rd time I had it in my neck and throat, so other than surgery, there would be nothing available to stop it from spreading. there is no chemo or other advanced treatments known to stop that cancer type, even the radiation back at the time, was a shot in the dark by my oncologist at the time, just to do something.

I have shown the "lump" to a total of 4 different doctor in the past 2 years. All of them said looks like a harmless cyst, nothing to worry about it. When it suddenly grew large and began to bleed, only then, did my uro agree with me, that it might be something to worry about, and let's get it cut out and checked. All 3 previous events with that cancer type started out with small lumps that I was told not to worry about. Each case, the doctor at the time was wrong.  This is mostly being done now because I am being pro active and not wanting to take a chance.

On the pain doctor issue, my dr. doesn't have specific experience with CRPS, so he wants a doctor that knows that disorder inside and out to give an assessment and opinion.  It's hard to diagnose, and even harder to treat, especially when it advances in degree.

it still bothers me all these years later, that the first 2 surgeons that took out the porocarcinoma never bothered to refer me to an oncologist, or even tell me the danger of that rare type of cancer. thinking back, it was negligent on their part.

it was only after the 3rd time, when it was in my throat, that the surgeon, quite surprised by finding that much cancer, quickly had me see a great oncologist, who had another patient with the same cancer type, making him the expert, as much as there could be one with so few reported cases.

so its important to me, to get the all clear signal from this groin lump. highly likely that it isn't porocarcinoma, or any other cancer, but I have to know this first hand. even after the 3rd event, the surgeon told me, don't worry, there's probably no chance that its that cancer again. that particular tumor in my throat was 95% cancerous, and was right in those touchy lymph nodes in the throat, making the possibility of spread high at the time.

I just don't want to take any chances.
