Weight Loss After Robotic Surgery?

Has anyone lost weight after surgery? Hubby's lost approx 10/15lbs since his, and it's very noticeable. He's been getting concerned about it, and asked if anyone on here has mentioned it happening to them.

His pants look way too big on him... His face is looking too thin... Just doesn't look or seem 'right'. I told him I thought it could be from the stress of the diagnosis and the surgery, which doesn't quite sound like it fits to him.

His 2nd post-surgery doctor visit is on the 24th, and we'll probably give them a call if he loses anymore before then.

My dad had his davinci surgery in the first week of April so your husband's was only a week after, and yes my dad lost weight with the surgery, too.  From what I have read, this is pretty common.  It's major surgery and it takes the body a while to bounce back.  Their activity level is slowed way down and so they are not as hungry, not eating as big of portions as before the surgery.  But as he starts feeling better physically you should see his appetite picking back up.  It may take longer to put on the pounds.

It's very common. I lost weight after both surgeries I've had (gallbladder and hernia). The meds, surgery all take their toll and I had a big loss of appetite.

Something about the body's healing process and the stress of surgery. It takes several months to fully heal. I didn't look or feel 'right' for a couple of months. Give it time, he'll bounce back.

Still, do ask the doctor if he continues to lose weight.

I wish. I ended up gaining maybe even 25lbs. Didn't help that I went to live in Rome for a year with the express purpose of eating and drinking.

I'd ask your doctor though.

Thank you everyone. I didn't think it could be something too weird, yet the difference is pretty dramatic which has/had us both wondering...
Hopefully it begin to reverse itself!!
He's playing tonite for the 1st time since surgery, he's lead guitar in a orginals/80s rock band, so hopefully that'll help normalize things a bit more for him. :)

I lost about 20 lbs, but it was from all the walking I did after surgery. I've kept the weight off by staying active and eating better. I'm in much better shape now than I was pre-surgery.

I lost 8 pounds (dropping from 158lbs to 150lbs) in the 5 weeks since I had surgery.

Me best guess: Some of the weight is because of the liquid diet and soft foods for several days. Then, the reduced activity level causes less appetite. And, in my case, I lost muscle mass because my daily trips to the gym ceased for several weeks.

He started back on regular food late afternoon of the surgery. But he isn't eating as much, nor as active as he used to be yet.

I lost a couple of pounds, but guessing other rearranged on me as everyone said my face looked a lot thinner. Was just eating enough to get by on for the first month and walking. Trust me...this past month I've gained it all back!

I lost 10 lbs. also, most of it has stayed off with better diet and walking. Had to get new belts to hold my pants up.

It's funny (in a not so funny way), how something so logical still tends to make you so concerned.
