Hi

I am new here and I am in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

I have just had a biopsy and am awaiting results. male 47 sSa 5.1, 4.0 a month ago.

The medic said I had 'shadows' on my prostrate which are clearly visable, normal size so not enlarged. My online research would suggest this would be cancer, any opinions/experiences appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you find yourself here but glad you've come.

Unfortunately, you are going to have to wait for the biopsy results to know anything. Most shadows that show up on prostates on that sort of ultrasound aren't cancer, and many cancers don't show up on ultrasound. The ultrasound helps the doctor aim the biopsy gun but it is almost useless as a diagnostic tool.

Welcome... I visit your city in July during the Jazz festival. Will take advantage of the opportunity to show my son your university. Hoping he likes it as the tuition is about a quarter of American college tuition.

In all honesty I would not get caught up by internet research and talk of shadows at this point. I'd wait for those biopsy results. I'm in a similar position with my mother, the identified a "shadow" on her lung but had to do a biopsy to confirm. I've often heard of shadows and often heard that they turned out to be nothing.

Hang tight, and wait for those biopsy results. Be sure to share the outcome with us.

David, Edinburgh is a wonderful city, with an excellent University, your son would be very well placed to come here, for the fun, education and just to be in a great place - as well as the fees :-)
