Penile Rehab: Insur. doesn't cover meds

Just discovered  that my health insurance doesn't cover ED meds (oral, intra-urethral, or injection) for any reason other than BPH (after other meds fail).

My doc warns against mail order / Canada ED drug sources as overseas manufacturing can be of dubious quality. (Yes, Canada isn't overseas, but their sources can be, thus the lower prices.)

Wondering if any one in the forum has had to pay their own way in this department?  Have you found a particular pharmacy cheaper than another? Did you choose meds or methods based on price and, if so, what did you choose?

Any other questions I should be asking?

Surgery on Tuesday, so doing a lot of prep for our trip to Detroit and a 8 or 9 day surg-cation at Henry Ford Hospital downtown.

My insurance initially turned me down for oral ED meds. But after some research, I asked my doctor to submit another request, this time insisting the meds were absolutely necessary for penile rehab due to ED resulting from radical prostatectomy (wording to that effect). That second request was subsequently approved and I was able to get one year's worth of daily Levetra covered by my insurance.

I know every insurance company is different but it might be worth trying again.

I'm pretty much paying my own way. The good news for me (which is also the bad news) is that my doctors started me on two years of HT after my surgery and until sometime in 2015 the oral drugs are unlikely to do anything but cost money. I use Trimix for my rehab and (at about $5 per dose) it is fairly affordable.

I also bought my own vacuum device. My insurance would have "covered" is as an out-of-network medical device but since all of my other expenses were in network the out-of-network deductible would have applied and the insurance would have covered it but not actually paid anything, and since the "prescription" version is the same device at a much higher price I just coughed up the two hundred bucks.

Steve, hope all goes well for you. My insurance didnt cover anything either. I was denied twice by them ,however; you should talk to them (Jaimie or Andrea) about it. I was able to work out a deal for my RX, but that was with the West Bloomfield location. They will give you the first month of Cialis for free. Best of luck !
