Hi All,
I need your help with suggesting best hospital in NYC for radiation oncologist.
A little history first:
Age = 71 years old
2/10/13, PSA = 100, 3/1/13 PSA 97
3/2/13, Biopsy = G score 8, (4+4) or (4+3) positive in all 12 cores
3/13/13, First Lupron shot
3/19/13, CT scan negative no mets
3/20/13, Bone scan negative no mets
5/10/13 DaVinci surgery
5/20/13 Post surgery report: G 8 (4+4) 80%, (1) Positive margin rest negative, Positive SVI, 3 out of 10 lymph nodes positive.
Stage T3B N1 M0. (post surgery)
My father is
otherwise very healthy. His parents died in their 90s so we are looking to stop
cancer for at least 15 – 25 years. We are all positive that this could be done.
We live in Fairfield county in CT. Surgery was done in NYM hospital in Brooklyn NY. We are happy with urologist and surgeon, but now we have to see radiation oncologist. Daily trips to Brooklyn NY are unrealistic and due to the fact that it is T3B
N1 we would like to go to one of the best radiation oncologist in our area.
This is what we are considering.
1) Memorial Sloan in NYC
2) New York Presbyterian in NYC
3)Mount Sinai in NYC
4) White Plains Hospital, NY– approx. 20 min drive from our home.
We would like to get opinion from people who got treatment at these hospitals or know someone who did get it. We are afraid that MSKC or NYP hospital might have a lot of marketing and that there is not to much
of a difference in comparison with i.e White Plains Hospital. MSKC and NYP for sure have great research division, but how is regular “person” with medicare insurance treated there. We understand that
they are good hospitals, but we are afraid that we might get treated by doctor that is not so great = low score doctors at these hospital. If one of you was treated there and are happy with the results
please provide us with the name of the doctor.
Please suggest other hospitals as well in NYC, Westchester county or Fairfield county.
Based on the staging now we understand that we will have to deal with my father treatment till the rest of his life. T4 staging and bone and other organ mets might be in his future that’s why we want to start fighting cancer in best hospital in out area.
We are taking this fight full force right from the start. Urologist already wants him to schedule adjuvant RT after healing from surgery is done.
Please share
your opinion.
Thank you,
