Very interesting thread with many excellent responses.
I am dealing with 2 world class experts.
Dr. Lam has been wonderful in every way, by every metric. Incidentally, his office is superb too. They return cals and emails very quickly, and so does he (not a coincidence).
The other one I am seeing is at Univ. of Mich. She is very nice and world famous as she has co-authored numerous majpr studies (including some regarding HT vs. IHT). But there is an edge to her, especially when I mention that I have seen Drs. Lam/Scholz. She claims to not know them. How can you not know them -- they are famous -- ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU SPOKE AT A CONFERENCE THEY RAN A FEW YEARS AGO? GIVE ME A BREAK!!
She also got VERY upset when I informed her that I will be getting my Lupron shot locally. I feel my local urologist is excellent and, frankly, if I have a urological emergency due to the shot or otherwise, I am not going to call someone 2+ hours away. Also, just trying to make contact with Mrs. STAR Doctor is a pain. I have to call Umich. Eventually, someone calls me back just to confirm the message. Then the message is given to someone in her Department who will contact me to make sure of the message. Then evenually someone talks to Her Highness and relays her answer to me. This process could take 2-4 days. Meanwhile, when my PSA shot up a year ago, my local urologist called me herself.
I pretty much don't deal with the Umich expert. I haven't fired her only because I feel she is very bright and knowledgeable, and 2+ hours is a lot closer than 2500 miles (Dr. Lam).
