My husband is just about
9 months out from surgery. Although my husband had complete ED after his surgery, he is seeing the first sign that his ED is starting to get better. In the last month he has woken up with an erection a few times. While he still has ED, I think this is a very positive sign that he has a chance to overcome it.
For his ED he is under the care of Dr. John Mulhall, who has helped him through some difficult times. However, anyone can follow Dr. Mulhall's program for ED rehabilitation.
For those men who are still deciding on a treatment for PCa and who are considering surgery, I think that choosing an expert and experienced surgeon is the most important thing. Although my husband's cancer had escaped the prostate, my husband's surgeon was able to save 75% of his nerves and also get clear margins. I worry every day that he might have a BCR, but for now his PSA's have been undetectable and his ED is showing the first sign of the possibility of resolving.

great news. those nocturnal errections are a good sign, shows that errections are physically possible on their own, sounds like those nerves are coming out the "coma" that the surgery put them in.
should be encouraging to both of you. and great on the undetectable part

Bluebird -- Fantastic news!!! A good sign he's on the road to recovery. Stay with the program and hang in there. Remember it can take 2 years (or more) to recover from ED. I'm 25 months out and no longer need injections; just a little boost from 25mg 0f Viagra.

PS I'm a Mulhall patient too.

Definitely a good sign. That's the way it started for me and I'm good to go now.
Best wishes,
Tom

Im 4 years out and it is still improving, used to need cialis viagra cocktail, now 20 mg cialis every other day day does the trick. No I didn't say with a cocktail, well may be one icy cold.

Very good, that is indeed a good sign. But as many may have said, ED resolution at his age may take 2 years or more. That was my first sign too. I had surgery at age 58. Now at age 60, there are no problems for me. Yesterday was my 2 year anniversay of daVinci surgery, and I do not need drugs or injections.
And the ED improvment may not be "a straight line". Break a Cialis into about
5mg. portions and take that every night and he may get better and more frequent erections at night. These occur during REM sleep and although they always disappear as soon as you wake up, they are very good in the fact that they get fresh blood flowing to "the little guy" and counteract any damaging effects of not having regular erections during the day. Most of all don't get discouraged, since that only creates more stress and that counters erections. My guess is that you will be fine in a matter of months! Good luck.
Bill K. from NJ
PSA at 50= 1.7, PSA at 58 =3.3, free PSA 21%, Maternal grandfather died of PCa at age 67. Gleason 3+4=7, 1/12 cores+ at 30%. Neg DRE.
daVinci 7/19/2011, downgraded to Gleason 3+3=6, 10% involvement, contained.
Immediate urinary control but 100% ED for over a year. Used VED, 5 mg. Cialis, BiMix injections.
Not at 2 years post surgery all PSA's < 0.015 and no ED.

Hi everyone. It's "Mr. Bluebird". Yes, little Johnny is starting to wake up from his very deep snooze. I know I have a lot of road still in front of me, but the positive signs, coupled with the encouragement from all of you, has me feeling good about
things. Not knowing when, if or how it will all turn out still is challenging and, to make a bad pun, "nerve-wracking", but hopefully, like the complete continence that I now have (save for the occasional sneeze or cough), and the undetectable PSA that has been coming up roses for me, eventually the ED may become a memory, too. Good luck to all of you in your journeys.

Good to hear from you, Mr. Bluebird. The fact that your little fellow can do that while you are asleep, means that mechanically, its working. Now if the rest of the "wires and connections" can heal up, you should be on your way. Your guy has probably been in a deep coma all this time from all the shock and trauma of your surgery. Hoping this is the start of the end of your ED journey.

1 year from my surgery, almost to the day, I started feeling the first twinges of life. Up to that point I felt nothing and was doing injections. I didn't have the nerves spared, so it was somewhat unexpected.
Not long after I stopped injections and used viagra for a while. I didn't like the side effects and found Cialis worked better for me. Now at 2 1/2 years I'm not using anything. It's nowhere near what I had before surgery, but far better than I had expected/hoped.

I'm thinking a lot of E.D. is based on how well, or not so well, the deep dorsal vein complex is managed during surgery. How it was ligated, how much bleeding(and cauterization required to stop it), is the flow as good or much weaker than before surgery ?
Blood flow is the basis for a good you know what !

Things are looking up for you - Mr. & Mrs. Bluebird! YAY!
My husband has had activity in the shower which looks quite hopeful! Only time will tell.

Activity in the shower... I remember that from my youth. There was always the issue of who gets the hot water and trying not to let anyone's skin touch the cold tile. Hopeful indeed.
