PSA Reading 6 weeks after biopsy

 

Hello,

My last PSA reading was on February 15, 2013 and it was 3.9

Biopsy done on June 19, 2013 showing Cancer in 5 of 12 cores, Gleason 6 (3+3). Did not have PSA reading done at same time of Biopsy.

Just had another PSA reading as of Aug 3, 2013:  It was 4.5

I am still researching treatment options and wanted to know if this jump in PSA means anything or not since I have my biopsy results already and know I have cancer.  I am only 6 weeks out from the Biopsy so could that have elevated it?

Just want to be sure I still have time to research my options and not take immediate treatment action.

My PSA Sept 2012 was 4.1.

In March 2013 it was 5.2.

Biopsied on April 15, 2013.

Next PSA check was on May 1, 2013 (7 weeks after biopsy), and it was 9.7 (!), and my urologist notes that as my pretreatment PSA.

By themselves, those three readings give me a doubling time of about 6 months just before starting my primary ADT/IMRT therapy plan.

I'm hoping the May 1 increase was a leftover from the biopsy, but with a raging G9 I'm not so sure. Though starting Lupron that day, after another 7 weeks on ADT it was only down to 2.0. We added Casodex then to hit it harder (not really indicated before that result).

I've seen mention of elevation for as much as 3 months after a biopsy, but can't give you a link to that or how much that elevation might be.
