A study from Johns Hopkins found that both strategies gave equivalent results. One group of men took 50 mg nightly, the other took 50 mg on-demand up to 6x/month for a year. All men were previously potent, had nerve sparing, were under 65 and took double-blind placebos of the other treatment.

It seems like a big money savings to go with the on-demand strategy.

Sadly the rules of the forum do not allow us to run a prescription drugs flea market here. Viagra is still patent protected for use as a treatment for erectile dysfunction in the US market. I think that the same drug (marketed under a different name) is available as I generic drug for treating some heart conditions. But that is neither here nor there.

I am not criticizing how you obtained the drugs but I am fairly sure you don't have any legal way to transfer them to anybody else while you are in the US.

sure, but out of curiosity, if I had some available and I met up with a friend, it would be illegal for me to hand them over as a gift? Just curious

I had my surgery at Hopkins 20 months ago. I questioned my URO/surgeon about their use extensively as I had had no previous difficulties with my hydraulics. He specifically told me that, "The taking of Viagra-type drugs without the usual foreplay and attempt at the act is useless... What is important is the usage of the med in conjunction with a "physical therapy" program. But the "physical therapy" portion is the most important."

With some more questioning he said daily use of certain drugs was to reduce SE's and so that the drug remained at a constant level, ready for action... so to speak.

Basically, he prescribed each of the pills. I tried each, didn't really "like" any, but they all worked... a couple better than the other. Since I didn't like the SE's of the meds, he told me to just keep up with the "physical therapy."

20 months out, I can almost manage it now without meds. I've used them only sparingly. My Uro said at my last appointment that, "...by using them now, as your recovery is increasing, it's likely that the recovery would accelerate."

He was adamant at the beginning, however, that if I didn't intend to have intercourse when I took the meds, he said, I might as well not. That just "taking" them wouldn't do any good. It was the whole arousal complex that went along with their taking that was beneficial.

edit: btw, the "physical therapy" was to attempt sex 3-4 times per week.

Nope, davidg. That's what I thought too and that's how the discussion began about their use. My guy was adamant about the arousal part... and this is a big deal guy at Hopkins when it comes to younger guys and erectile function for all types of disease, including PCa.

Anyway, he said that I should be trying 3-4 times/ week to achieve a useable erection and to then... use it. :) The blood flow is only of use during the arousal and usage stages. The pills give you the ability to get an erection more readily with stimulation. The mere fact that they are taken, absent stimulation, does nothing other than dialate blood vessels thru-out your body.

The article makes sense given what I was counseled. My story is provided merely as a citation...
