Gerry
I agree the Prostate Cancer Foundation has made great positive strides and should be supported.
I also want to mention that there is now a new program called Start A Cure (www.StartACure.com) which currently lists 23 prostate cancer specific research projects that are looking for funding. They come out of the best institutions including Harvard, MD Anderson, Johns Hopkins and UCLA.
The site was designed as one answer to the terrible funding cuts experienced by cancer research ($7.1 billion cut from cancer research at the NIH resulting from the government sequester etc.)
Descript
ions of the proposals appear on the site along with an explanation from the researcher by they are interested in doing the research. The proposals range from prevention to aftercare and everything in between.
Some sample projects included are:
1- An analysis of what goes wrong in the diagnosis of PC in African American Men
2- Testosterone Therapy; Feeling Better While Defeating Cancer
3- Probing Prostate Cancer by Circulating Tumor Cells
4- Fighting PC with Breast Cancer Drugs
5- Who Will Respond to Zytiga and Xtandi?
<snip />Start A Cure (www.StartACure.com) has been created and is managed by Malecare, a long time prostate cancer education and advocacy organization. In interest of full disclosure I am the voluntary (we all are) Director of Advanced Prostate Cancer and Advocacy Programs.
<snip />If you are a funder of any project the researcher will provide periodic updates to you about
their research.

I snipped out a few details of the way the projects are attempting to raise funds. Presumably those are available at the StartACure.com website. The forum rules do not allow them to be listed here.
