On Friday I received my 13th round of IMRT delivered radiation. Last evening during bowel movement there was a burning sensation in that area. Today I have hardly any energy and feel like I have been run over by a dump truck.

Are these normal types of side effects? I've had three bouts of tiredness this past week but today is by far the worst one.

sorry to say, very normal. It's not uncommon to have fatigue at this point. I assume you're getting the weekend off of treatments - that will give you some time to recover a bit. Rest, a bit of walking is about all you can do for the energy. The radiation throws your whole body out of whack.

The bowel thing happens but I'd mention it to your RO on Monday just so they know what is going on.

This whole IMRT is an endurance test.

Do something nice for yourself today.

Hang in there - before you know it this will be a bad memory.

Ditto what Andrew has said.

By all means do mention these things to your RO at your next visit, which are weekly, I assume. He/she has probably seen at all and will know what to do to help you.

Yes, patience really is the best tool for getting through radiation.

Getting plenty of cardiovascular exercise is probably the last thing you feel like doing, but is probably the best thing you can do to fight radiation-induced fatigue.

On a lighter note you used a "dump truck" analogy when speaking on SE's from taking a dump.

Seriously, I hope your discussion with your radiation oncologists leads to a lessening of that symptom.

Yes, agree with Andrew in particular, it's an endurance contest, a marathon, keep on going, brother, the end is in sight. We are waiting for you.

Are you taking Metamucil? Most of the patients on the radiation sites swear by it and it helped me during treatments. As was mentioned a good excercise program is a must when undergoing radiation to combat fatigue.
