A friend of mine from Church played the Trumpet at my Daughters wedding 2 years ago. He is age 59 and within the last two weeks found out he has prostate cancer.

He is a Gleason 9 (4+5) and received news yesterday on his cat scan results. The cancer has metastasized all ready to the bone, hip and spine. They are starting him on Lupron and of course he is in an overwhelmed phase right now.

I of course have recommended he join healing well. I just got off the phone with him  and our pastor is on the way over to his house to visit with him and his wife.

Just asking for others to remember him and his wife as they start this journey unfortunately at a more advanced stage.

That's a tough diagnosis, but plenty of people here on HW have fought that beast. I agree that introducing him to this forum is a good idea.

Lewvino of course I'll add him to my thoughts and prayers as another brother...... I'm glad you suggested HW to him and am hoping he takes you up on that. Tough Dx indeed, but as you know there are many out here dealing with the beast and staying ahead.

Lewvino - you can let your friend know that he is not alone.

Other than me being 6 years older than him, our Dx is similar. I have been on Lupron since 3-28-13 and on Xgeva to prevent so called skeletal events for the past 2 months.

You should recommend to him that he secure a medical team quaterbacked by a medical oncologist from a national PCa center and supplemented with a second uroloigsit/surgeon plus a radiaition oncologist.

When you get a chance if he dores not take you up on your offer to join HW, ask him his PSA history so you can post that on his behalf.

Sounds like he already has a good start on the most important team, minister, friends, prayer warriors etc and you can count me in that latter group.

News like that is always difficult to take. I'll say a prayer for your friend and wish him the best.

Dear Lewvino,

Welcome to HW and so sorry to hear about your dear friend. I too am traveling down the same road that your friend is on. I believe in the power of prayer and trusting in God for my healing and (started on meds last Oct. 1st) I will add your friend to my list.

If you have time, you may want to read my story and just hope you and your friend find peace and just take it one day at a time (that's what my family and I do).

Please be encouraged that there are new drugs out there that's helping others, myself and will help your friend as well.

You'll find that there are many people here that are willing to help in any way they can.

Take care and even thought I'm somewhat new to HW site, I too am available to chat with you and or your friend.

Update on my friend.

I saw my friend Bill at Church this weekend and got an update from him on his cancers.

He is battling two types of cancer - Lymphoma and the recent Diagnosis of Prostate cancer at Gleason 9.

I've encouraged him to join our forum but so far he hasn't.

At any rate his medical team has started him on Lupron for the prostate cancer. Also the Doctors wanted to take a sample from the bone from the three different mets that were found.

This was to determine if the mets were from his prostate cancer or from his lymphoma. The first samples were two small so a second procedure was done. The second procedure indicated that the mets were from his lymphoma and not his prostate. I believe this was determined by the types of cells that were found in in the bone samplings.

From what I understand they are starting him on Chemo and No surgery is planned at this time for his prostate.

Bill is upbeat and cheerful but also realizes that he is in a serious situation.
