Dad newly diagnosed with Prostate Cancer

Any help and advice appreciated.

My father age 64 has recently been diagnosed with PC following a PSA test result of 70.
He is otherwise fit and healthy with all other blood tests coming back as normal.

He had a PSA test and prostate exam a year ago which was also normal.

His initial visit to the doctor was prompted buy a numbness in his chin. I have researched this online and it is described as a rare presenting symptom of a advanced metastasized prostate cancer and that prognosis is very poor (30% 5 year survival rate). No dental cause has been found.

Can anyone shed any light on this? It seems hard to believe that a normal PSA test a year ago could change so rapidly. He will not have confirmed bone scan results for two more weeks and I am going out of my head with worry.

That is a high PSA. Was there a retest to confirm the number. Did he have the biopsy. If you could share a couple of more details, Gleason score, staging more of the folks with common numbers could share their experience.

Even though it's a high number, there is still hope and a number of treatments they can do. We've had men here with worse numbers beat the 3 and 5 year marks. Worry is natural but it's still very early in the process for your dad and there is a lot of hope for keep the PC at bay for a very long time.

Keep us updated on progress and do let us know what the bone scan shows.
