I have heard that your penis size decreases after surgery is this true? I am three weeks post surgery and am having very little feeling. Doc will be beginning either Viagra or Cialas in two weeks. I pray this will help.

I have very little to spare (so i would have noticed!) and I noticed no difference when erect.

I noticed some difference initially, but as I slowly regained my sexual function back, it has pretty returned to normal size wise. Use it or lose it is absolutely true.

I brought an old thread on this subject back to life briefly about 2 weeks ago after my catheter was removed. The subject does not seem to be terribly popular these days. Having said that, my penis is certainly shorter. I have urinated in a seated position for all but two times when I momentarily "forgot" what I was doing. There is not as much to grab...yet. However, from what I could read, it gets better and apparently longer...but sitting may still be easier. To be continued....

The penis isn't shorter it is is just pulled in due to reattachment of urethra to bladder. The prostate from top to bottom is no longer there and they vary in length. Eventually the urethra is stretched to make up that gap. Think Mc Fly, bonk, bonk, Thimk…...

agree with logo on this one. I am 5 years out of surgery. at first, in the flaccid state, it seemed shorter, but when erect, the same. over time, things are back to normal, either soft or hard. the new position of your bladder helps to pull it inward a bit, because you have one less "mounting" point for the bladder once the prostate is gone.

Definitely shorter for the first couple of months, then it seems like out of know where the normal size came back. Talk to your Uro about VED. This is great for penile health and restoration. Regards Inkhorn

had da vinci 6 weeks ago. surgeon said my penis had been pulled back one inch. seems more to me!! glad to here size returns!!
definitely alot easier sitting on toilet and recommended.

Not sure about after surgery but can tell you it's a double whammy with hormonal therapy, penis size lost plus no libido desire to use whatever minimal size there may be.

Vitamin V Viagra helps on the former and a supportive spouse on the latter to maintain some semblance of muscle memory.

It has been 4 weeks since surgery and mine is smaller. I remember the urologist said that the penis doesn't get shorter after surgery. He said that instead of the penis getting pulled up that actually the bladder gets pulled down into the prostate bed. Well I am shorter.

Now the question, when can I start exercising junior and not worry about damaging the anastomosis or anything else?

Someone lately posted a link to a study which reported that starting early with ED meds on a daily basis and staying with them helped retain size over a longer time, nerves saved or not. It will atrophy, as any other body part, if not used.

My experience is that it appears smaller most of the time, but with a shot of trimix, things are back to normal. Pity is that the Lupron makes me not care. Trimix becomes more of a preservation/medical intervention than a pleasure.

Hola,

I'm not sure about the aspect of pullback and urethra shortening. I read in Dr. Mulhall's book that after surgery the erectile nerves are bruised and not too effective. (My words for all this and not quoted) however the shrinkage nerves, think cold pools, are not affected and these nerves and signals over power the unhappy erectile nerves. As the erectile nerves heal we have balance again. Hence the return of normal size over time

I am 12 days post RALP and I can tell I am now at least an inch shorter, maybe more. Right now I am focused on continence . I am sure that as I improve, the size issue will become more important. Right now the smaller size is actually easier with having the pad stuck in there with it.

Love your comment re more room for the pad! That's a great positive attitude and funny! We need more comic relief here! My Johnson was always short as I have a grower rather than a show-ER. Now it neither shows nor grows! I'm 70 and don't have much of a libido but I guess I better start using it before I lose it completely.

I am an optimist by nature. I guess that helps in this situation. My Uro also has had me taking low dose sildenafil since before the surgery.

Now I caught my wife's head cold. What a pain. You're supposed to drink plenty of fluids for a cold but you know what that means 12 days after surgery. In addition the sildenafil adds to the congestion.

Oh well.

In answer to your question of when you can start exercising junior, the answer is Soon! You are 4 weeks out. I was told to start using the VED pump at 4 weeks after the cath was removed along with Viagra 3 days a week. It is very encouraging to see "junior" grow while using the pump. Even though it doesn't last, it IS encouraging and gives you hope that there will be sex after surgery.

As most here say, the size is not the same as before but when it "wakes up", it is pretty close to the same.

It is shorter! I was told by ED Nurse to pump in the mornings and keep on pumping for awhile!

I'll preface my reply by mentioning that I did not have ED after surgery.
However, I noticed the change of size in both the flacid and erect state.
The penis doesn't really get shorter after surgery, as Logo said it's more a case that you can see less of it as the hidden end of your penis and the bottom side of your bladder are now closer together as a section inbetween where the prostate was has been removed.
Now for some people the bladder may be fixed more firmly in place in your body so the penis has to move up towards the bladder resulting in a shorter appearance, for other people the penis will be better fixed and the bladder will move down and there will be less noticeable change in appearance.

Another factor is that if you are wearing pads then they will squash things together and make things look smaller. Remeber that when peeing you need to pull all the squashed bits out first so things are longe enough to prevent you peeing inside your clothing.

Things will change/improve over time if you work on it. I am several years down the road and some days I still find that everythiing has disappeared, but on other days everything seems to be in fine form and even my wife has observed that little Alf seems to be bigger than he was before surgery.

I have used no pumps, meds or jabs, but I have found that things work better if I squeeze the sides of the base of my penis a regular intervals while trying to get things going.

And, as with golf, the most important inches are the ones between your ears.

Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers spoke at length (or lack thereof) on impact of Radiation and ADT on Penis size a few years ago

His conclusion was that though Lupron causes a temporary loss of length of penis, once Lupron ends, and testosterone starts to rise, so does the penis size.

The Turkish 18-month study he discusses is attributed more to the radiation treatments than to the Lupron which was stopped after 9 months.

At end of video, he also indicates use of vacuum pump or traction devices can mitigate loss of penile shrinkage

I was told that the real reason one is asked to avoid the weight gain that comes with hormonal therapy is so you can actually still see him without the mirror with or without a magnifying glass.

If your belly button is an Outie may get confusing.
