I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 15 months ago, followed by pollups in my colon. I postponed the prostate decision and had colon surgery that went bad. Ended up with sepsis, in the colon and spent months recovering. Not wanting to go through surgery again, I chose to have seeds implanted. Got the results today and extremely good news, down to 0.8 from 4.8 on my PSA. My Doctor, who did the seed implant, sent me to consider the other options and the implants made the most sense for me. It was a one hour procedure and I recovered in a day. Everything since then, including sexual function, is normal. Why anyone would do anything else, unless removal is the only option, would never make sense to me. Good luck to all of you and as my doctor said "think of your quality of life".

Because the first point of contact when presented your fateful diagnosis is done by a surgeon. Hence the proliferation of surgeries, even for the high risk guys when it's clearly not the best option. My uro said something like, "we are trained to deal with cancer in three ways, cut it out, cut it out and cut it out.

true and right to the point. I was lucky that my urologist felt that surgery was not right for me.

Welcome to HW, sorry you need to be here.

Sounds like you've been through a lot.

Brachy is a great way to go. One of my brothers had that as his primary treatment. After seeing how well he's done, I wish I'd got that route. You're an example of why everyone should at least talk to an RO before deciding on treatment. Surgeons only know surgery.

I'll also welcome you here, and offer my congratulations on your post implant PSA - Hell Yeah!

I too am in the camp of Brachy as the right choice for me; choice of treatment is an incredibly personal decision and we each need to go with what makes the most sense for ourselves, that's for sure. Like F8 I was very fortunate to have a Uro that explained everything everything about my biopsy results, including the various treatment options, and encouraged me to search them all out.

So then again congrats to you and wishing you continued success!

Hello SL and welcome to HW. Your seed results are great and I'm really happy for you.

As Yoop points out, choice of treatment is a highly personal decision but - yes- there are many of us here who are really glad that brachytherapy was our choice.

Great results and choice of treatment. My hubby just got similar results from his seed implants as well. He too is very happy with his choice of treatment. Best of luck for continued success.

Thank you all for your comments. If anyone is looking for a recommendation I would suggest using Dr Brian Moran, from the Chicago Prostate Clinic. He was great explaining the risks and benefits of each type of procedure. Good luck to all of you.

SL Air, count me in as one of those so successfully treated by Dr. Moran at the CPC. Welcome to the other side and continued best to you! I'm also 15 months out and have absolutely no issues; I keep sticking around here to help others that will unfortunately find themselves having to find us - I would humble encourage you to do the same.

SL Doc Moran also worked his magic on me about 9 months ago. I can report no urinary issues and no ED issues.

SL, great news. Moran is well known and respected. He has served you well. My uro immediately sad no surgery. He wants to cure me no matter the treatment. Her is operating less and suggesting brachytherapy more. Works for me.

Congrats on a great decision and it would have been mine but back when the earth was flat G7 was the max for seeds and the horses had left the barn. You have been through a lot but you came out on top! Please stick around and help Tud, Yoop, Buddy, JNF and all the other "seed men". You have been there and know how to help newbees..All the best to you.
