struggling with kidney issues

My docs are mystified. You might recall I had VERY elevated liver enzymes. Dr. Lam said it was the Casodex. We stopped it immediately and enzymes went WAY back down.

We resumed Casodex and all continued well, until last test where my kidney function is WAY off.

Doctors do not know the cause.

For now, as a shot in the dark, I have stopped fosamax and metformin (a drug recently introduced -- that is a diabetis drug that Phase 3 trials have shown very effective vs. PC).

Hoping next test in 2 weeks shows a stoppage in this kidney deterioration.

Anybody else have ideas?

Mel - that just sucks. Bad enough to deal with one issue but when they gang up on you...

It does seem that the side effects are worse than the disease sometimes.

Hope the medication change takes care of it.

1.4 is not bad. Exercise and dehydration can cause the creatinine to increase like this. Drink a lot of fluids before you recheck. Hopefully it will come down.

I have the same issue. eGFR has been at 52 for some time now. Diabetes can have an impact on your kidneys and I noted that you were taking Metformin but I am unclear on whether or not it is related to diabetes. High blood pressure can also impact the kidneys.

In my case I was taking simvastatin for high cholesterol. The FDA made an announcement that simvastatin could cause kidney damage at higher doses (80mg>) and advised against it. Shortly after that the issue showed up.

Lupron causes metabolic syndrome which includes high blood sugar, cholesterol and tryglicerides. My opinion is this is due to the loss of testosterone.

The liver enzymes can be related to muscle damage from working out. I have this all of the time and all it takes is a few days out of the gym and the numbers fall in line. Lots of info on this on the net from reputable sources.

Seems that your closing statement regarding the treatments reflects my feeling as well.
