My dear poodle Ziggy died yesterday morning as a result of an oral squamous cell cancer. Her fight lasted 2 years..... and I am so blessed she lasted that long. The way she dealt with her cancer ( 2 major surgeries, 16 radiation treatments, chemo), and her early onset blindness was an inspiration to me as I dealt with my own Stage 4 prostate cancer, then a Stage 3 rectal cancer. She had a mischievous spirit like I've never seen in a dog....which is why she was fondly known as "the monster", e.g. many summers ago tomatoes in my garden kept disappearing and I thought it was a raccoon....nope.... I finally caught her one day pulling them off of the vine and devouring each and every one!!! My home feels empty.....my fight still goes on but without my best bud....I am heartbroken. She died sleeping next to me in bed..... RIP my little Monster

Very sorry to hear it, ZM. Your tomato story, though, brought back memories of our own dog, Duchess, long since passed. Beth and I patiently waited for the first tomatoes of the summer to ripen, and finally they did. I put the three of them by the garden gate while we pulled some weeds. When I went to retrieve them, they were gone. It was then we learned how much Duchess enjoyed tomatoes.
In spite of her cancer battles, I'm sure your Ziggy had a great life and knew she was loved.

I'm a grown man, but I've never been ashamed to admit that tears of sorrow have many times rolled down my face at those times when we lost one of our little cats or dogs or birds. (We always had
some kind of pet around the house).
Yes, they really do almost seem like members of the family, and it really hurts when they go.
Know how you feel, ziggymonster.

Ziggy is across the "Rainbow Bridge" stealing tomatoes, running and playing with the other dogs. Ziggy be there for you.
We have lost 5 Labs over the years. As the years go by, it gets more difficult to lose a close friend. And yes, they are members of your family. They leave paw prints on your heart. So sorry for your loss.

Sorry about
your dog.
I know how that is.
We had a dog named Nutmeg who helped keep my wife sane while she was commuting between North Carolina and Florida while she was taking care of her dad who died of prostate cancer some time back. Nutmeg would ride patiently on the long car trips and give my wife an excuse to get away for a few minutes when my father in law got too grouchy. I think we grieved more for that dog than for anyone.

My condolences Ziggy
Sounds like you went the extra mile with her treatment. Try to find solace in the fact that you provided her with a good life and home during the time she was here. Best wishes during this sorrowful time.

So sorry that your friend has passed on... May those happy memories dry your tears & bring comfort to your heart.
Toy Poodles have been my best friend since 1970.. 4 were almost 15 when they went on..
2 were quiet spunky too..& in charge of everyone in the house - fortunately they ruled at different times!!
My last one passed several years ago.. she too never let achey joints & blindness hold her back, though she did sometimes get crankly - like me. ;-) She growled & snapped.. I just growled. Her bravery was marvelous.
Is lonely without a warm furry baby with me now.

Some of the guys at GFMPH have met my little Chihauhaa named Chiquita. She is almost 7, and I am already worried about
her not being around some day. I have never had a dog like her before. Most of my dogs have been outdoor dogs. Chiquita sleeps in my bed.
I hope you can make it through this and maybe even think about
Ziggy2 when the time is right. As I am typing this, Chiquita jumped in my lap and made room for herself. Man, these little dogs sure have a way of working their way into our hearts.

That is sad news. Sorry to hear of your loss. Our furry friends are such a comfort and joy that it is indeed very hard to see them pass from us.
My condolences.

I am so sorry to learn of your loss.our little four legged friends just invade our lives! We love them so much. My heart goes out to you tonight.
Murphy was our dog of a lifetime- he has been gone for a year.
Maybe Murphy is teaching Ziggy how to eat deer poo and then a "Greenie" for that minty fresh breath.
Keep up the fight

I tend to agree with F8 and logo. I
opened this expecting it to be a relative using your login, telling us you had departed this life.
I guess that changed my tenor to think "Thanks be" after I read the post, but that was wrong, as we do love our little friends. "Mine" are all those of the neighbors, but they are all family, and all run to greet me. I miss them, now that I can't walk like I did a few months ago.

Oh Ziggy, how sorry I am to read of the loss of your beloved "monster." It's been years since we've been owned by a dog, but we currently have 3 totally spoiled cats in charge of us. Last August, we lost our oldest cat (one month shy of 18 years old) and still tear up when we talk about
him. What a blessing animals are in our lives, and how fortunate you are that Ziggy chose to spend his life with you and your family.
Google The Rainbow Bridge...and have a box of tissues handy. It's a beautiful "poem" about
the love that exists between man and dog.

Ziggymonster,
A great love story--"no greater love, etc". You will be together again! This I do believe. Take care of yourself.

Beth and I have had a number of dogs over the years and have loved them all, but our last dog, Moki, who died in 2006, was special. He was a Shih-Tzu, smart as a whip, understood English, and was virtually psychic.
Ironically, and sadly, he died of prostate cancer. His death actually brought home to me the reality of this disease. I still think of him often.
The joy that Ziggy brought you will brighten your memories for years to come.

As I lay here in my bed my best little buddy is on his bed next to me. I absolutely dread the day he has to leave us. I cannot describe how much this little guy has meant to us. Sorry, I have to wipe my eyes......

sad day Ziggy, they are family and a dogs love cannot be measured it is constant and they give it their all....had a few dogs and still do, seeing them pass away is hard stuff, best way to rebound in get another little lover as a new chapter....Made up a country song about
finding a lost dog and taking her in....I titled it 'A Tale and A Tongue and Luck' (lol- has some fun lyrics too), but then I am a dog lover anyway...I get my licks on route 66 (-:}
