Well, we seem to have a G9/10 Club. We also have a Zero Club. Guess we might as well have an HT Club.

Post here to share opinions/concerns regarding our HT situations. Ask questions and keep us a-BREAST of your situation.

(Sonya will be joining us when she is done applying her makeup...I gather 2-3 weeks).

Yep, we got a club for everything (sans politics and religion). Why am I thinking that HW is starting to resemble Dell Webb's Sun City condos?

Mel, here's a question that I keep forgetting to ask my urologist. I have surgery next week and was curious if I will be continuing to take HT during recovery. For those that have had RRP, did you continue or begin HT immediately after surgery? I am currently on Casodex (daily 50mg) and monthly Lupron injection. Also, were SE's worse while recovering from surgery? I have not been sleeping well this week due to fresh Lupron injection last week and hot/cold episodes.

Great question. Hopefully someone here has gone that route.

I did the "traditional" route, being a G4+3.

I did surgery. It failed. Then SRT, it failed. and now the Lupron/Casodex duo.

The HT is working well now in terms of combatting the cancer, but the SE are getting tougher to deal with.

Here an interesting twist for HT club members.

 I have chimed in from time to time about the difficultly of the traditional meds to keep my T levels down. Started with Zolodex, worked for 7 months before T started rising, then went to Degarelix for about 11 months before it too stopped working. My oncologist was thinking surgery (castration) or zytiga as the next step, but we tried Lupron first. Due to its chemical  similarity with Zolodex, we werent expecting much, but after 4 weeks it has cut my T down from 180 to 75. Still not low enough, but on the right path.  It may not last too long either but rather than shooting the zytiga bullet now (i cant bring myself to the surgical option), we are currently thinking of a degaralix shock treatment -- 240 mg instead of the usual 120mg. 

Not sure its been done too often before, but right now its sounding good to me.

Just curious:

Obviously, you know that T is rising again via a blood test. But did you also notice a diminution of symptoms even before you did the blood tests?

I had my first Eligard shot in October 2010 and my last six month shot in August 2013. I was on a planned three year ADT3 that has hopefully seen the last of the T reducing shots though the Jalyn will continue indefinately to keep the DHT down as maintenance.

I have had the garden variety of side effects without too many real problems. I now look forward to them reversing as the last of the Eligard wers off and allows my T level to be restored. I will keep the members posted as changes occur.

Gunner, though I didn't have surgery, used radiation instead, my HT began one month before the radiation was delivered and has continued since. My docs all sugested long term continuous HT due to the high risk assessment at diagnosis.

yes I did notice a difference before the blood tested confirmed it. Reduced hot flashes, began to think about perhaps trying to have sex   turn . It didn't register with me the first time while I was on Zolodex, but by the second time while on the degarelix I knew positively that my T level was up before the blood test came back
