How does getting SSDI work in regard to PC?

I think a person would have to document that they could not work. The process takes some time. If the person earns more than about $700 a month, they lose SSDI.
I believe a person may obtain Medicare 2 years after going on SSDI.

I went through the process. SS would have never approved my claim based on PC alone. I was approved because of all the damage that I have received in my treatments for PC, that left me disabled.

It took me over 2 years to get approved, and in the end, it took a good SSD lawyer to get the job done for me, plus the help of my local US Senator.

Because of my long wait, Medicare was available to me immediately upon approval.

My advice, get a good SSD lawyer on day one. Expect to be rejected on the first try, almost everyone does.

It takes time and patience, but you can win if you have solid medical evidence.

Someone recently posted some items that absolutely qualify you, and even in the situation I'm in, I would not qualify. As a specialized attorney told me, if you can qualify to be a part-time Wally-World greeter, you don't really qualify for SSDI. He suggested that as close as I am to retirement possibility, keep the job and deal with it.

Also, there are a lot of people out there that wrangled unjustified SSDI, and the Feds are going after them and their doctors. Thousands in my state.

It has to be a very advanced case.

142 is right, about having "any" ability to work. SS doesn't care if its 5 hours a week at McDonalds or a full time job. If you can work at all, you will not qualify. So for starters, you would have to have a doctor and substantial medical records to prove you can't work.

Another factor that helps, is to be fully "vested" into the SS system. Most people that have worked all their lives (not those self employed) and old enough to have PC (except some of our younger brothers) should be covered on that part. I had 42 years work history with SS at the time of my approval, and was considered fully vested and entitled to the max. monthly allowance.

Age is another factor, my SSD lawyer told me, that the closer one is to early SS retirement (which in my case, and my older guys here, is 62), the less likely you will ultimately get denied. However, for people in their 20s through 40's, have a higher level of burden, because SS knows that have not paid into the system for all that many years.

Again, not to be repetitive, seeing a good SSD attorney first, can save one a lot of wasted time and grief, and they all work on contingency, so there's no money out of your pocket to get some general advice. A good attorney can tell you real fast, if your case has a ghost of a chance of being ultimately approved.

And its known, that the process is easier in some states than in others, even though it's a federal program.

It's a tough system to get into, but if you have a strong medical case, you can win.
