If you read what you posted you will see...that you clearly don't think I should have posted.
No, quite the contrary, alpehnull. I did just reread it, and it's clear to me that I neither said or implied that you
shouldn't have posted. Your flare-up catches me off guard.
What I said was that—given the clear set of circumstances (which I provided) confronting Lotsahope—the question
probably wasn't intended for the smaller subset of people in your situation...simply because the question would quite naturally have a completely different meaning for someone in your vastly different circumstances.
We are now seeing this
exact situation play-out in (some) responses to (count 'em) 3 threads on regret running concurrently on the top page, and it can be found elsewhere. Common responses make a huge difference on what one's case history is. I'm going to generalize here, so don't anyone jump off a cliff, but:
i) low risk and favorable risk guys who were aggressively treated and express regret will generally do so based on their recognition that they probably never needed treatment (and the ensuing side effects) at all
iia) intermediate unfavorable risk guys who had surgery and express regret will generally focus on their erectile dysfunction and/or incontinence
iib) intermediate unfavorable risk guys who had radiation and express regret will generally focus on their bowel incontinence
iii) As I said previously, the "Any regrets?" question doesn't make a lot of sense to me for high risk guys, and the typical responses also reflect this. High risk guys generally are emphatic about
zero regret about
being treated; they typically add that they wish they were treated more aggressively and/or sooner.
You can check each of the 3 threads to confirm this generalization.
It's a completely different conversation about
being overtreated versus being undertreated, for example...they share very little common ground. My point was
merely (as it was in my
opening reply entered in Tall Allen's "poll") that the the disease is so different, that it makes no sense to blend the comments—especially in a poll—without segmenting them by fundamental case history.
I stand by what I said, although I regret that you misread it which drove you into a rathole. You seem to start each reply with an unnecessarily tainted perspective, which I don't really understand. The posting was neither denigrating, belittling nor insulting. Lotsahope
probably never intended for high risk guys to reply...but often new posts (like Lotsahope's, and Tall Allen's poll) are not well thought-out in terms of how "the audience" will interpret it.
Are you chill now? Have another cocktail. It's 5 o'clock somewhere and I think I'm going to call it a day & join you with an Old Fashioned; I make mine with Cherry Heering...an "old school-Old Fashioned," a bartender once told me. Let's toast to moving on.
Cheers,
Norm
My other statement also still stands: "... my heart goes out to all you men with aggressive cases needing aggressive treatment(s)." It's so vastly different from my situation...it's really a bit baffling that the disease is referred to by the same name.
