Been watching for six years. Now elevated with no physical change in DRE. Is surgery wise at age 69?

What has your PSA pattern been? How big is your prostate? Have all other sources of elevation (e.g., prostatitis, urinary retention, BPH, sex before the test) been eliminated? You haven't had a biopsy (and it's not clear that one is necessary from your post), so isn't it premature to be talking about
a possible treatment for a disease you may not have?

Lots of factors to consider. What is your physical condition now? Any other factors health wise? This is a conversation you need to have with your doctor. Surgery (robotic) was no big deal for me, but I was 10 years younger and was used to riding 2000+ miles on my bicycle and working out in gym during the winter months. Depending on your diagnosis, radiation might be an option too. Without details it is impossible to answer your question.
Good luck,
Tom

Welcome to HW, sorry you need to be here.
There are a ton of things to consider. Surgery isn't your only choice. Radiation might work just as well. Men at your age could do fine with surgery although the older you get the less surgery is the first choice.
But we'd need a lot more info from you to list your choices. and we're not doctor, just a bunch of folks that have been down this path before.

JBac, please let us know if you have ever had a prostate biopsy..If so, how long ago? If you have had a biopsy, what were the findings?

JBac - I'm assuming you're been on AS for 6 years and that you've had a positive biopsy in the past. If not, stop after reading Allen's post...
Nobody here can tell you what to do vis-a-vis treatment choices. That is somethign only you and your doctor can know.
Surgery worked out 100% for me, I even like the scars from the 5 robot arms... that said, if I were 69 I personally would not have surgery in all probability. That doesn't mean that others here who were 65+ didn't benefit tremendously from surgery. It's a personal choice.

That question can be answered only by you and your doctor. If you are in good shape and no heart problems then robotic surgery can probably be done. My mother is 92 and this past year she had a laproscopic gallbladder removed, then a biliary stent then a month later she had angioplasty with a coronary stent installed, all without any problems.

Hello JBac and welcome to HW. As others have said, it would be helpful for you to provide a lot more info before we can help with any useful advice and counsel. So, c'mon back, sit a spell and tell us more about
your specific situation.
Regards,
Jim

i had a biopsy five years ago. 13 samples, one showed cancer. PSA has gone consistently up over five years. I am in good health. Still over weight after losing 30 pounds on weight watchers. Trying for 20 more. No changes seen in prostrate. It is not enlarged. I have no symptoms. I urinate often because I drink a lot of water with the dieting. Only need to get up once a night after six hours sleep. Play golf three times a week and exercise on days I don't play. Getting a bone scan tomorrow and an MRI on the 29th of March.
