From a Taxotere fan:
On this journey of unknown results and varying SE's ... it's always good to hear of a med or treatment that works ... at least for some period of time!
For me - Taxotere did work for a period of time (as did its cousin, Jevtana). I also would highy recommend getting a port. Besides being so useful during an infusion, it works very well for those Monthly (for me) full panel blood tests where 4-vials of blood are filled.
While on Taxotere, I did have 3-week intervals - which seems to be typical - and did have infusions up thru the 10th - or for 30-weeks! It did gradually lower my PSA - dropping it by close to 80% over the first 9-treatments or infusions. On the 10th infusion, my PSA very much stayed in the range of slightly over 12!
The side effects for the most part were minimal for me. I did lose about 1/3 of my head hair and nearly all the hair elsewhere. My nausea was fairly rare and did not last for long when it did appear.
The only disturbing SE for me was how it affected my GI system. I very soon got into cyles of 2 to 3-days of constipation - followed by at least 1-day of severe diarrea! It did, at times, make going somewhere - a challenge. I still (nearly 24-months later) have GI issues - even though they have changed somewhat.
There were no other noticeable side effects - like neuropathy, muscle aches or otherwise - except for a general tiring, and Lupron had something to do with that.
My history is below. We all vary - but, Taxotere was worthwhile for me. Best of luck to you!
