Cystoscopy after Robotic Prostectomy

Well I didn't think I would be posting until after my 3 month psa test but some strange things have happened.
I am 11 weeks post op and finally got rid of a stubborn UTI a couple of weeks ago. Cipro wouldn't touch it but Macroban did the trick along with Uribel. After infection cleared I was having trouble passing urine during the day, but at night it was a much better flow after laying down. Incontinence is down to a few drops a day ( thanks to pelvic therapy and bio feed back). So I went to the urologist last Wednesday and he tried to take a look up there but we didn't want any part of that so he did the procedure at a Surgical Center Monday under anesthesia and found that there was some scar tissue at the tip of my penis and also to his surprise some of the dissolving stitches where he joined the bladder neck to the urethra had not dissolved and were causing some blockage also. His exact words to my wife was "what a mess" so he cleaned everything up and out. Only drawback is catheter is back in until tomorrow am. I said to him I had no problems until this surgery and both he and my wife reminded me that I had cancer. How true

The scar tissue at the end of your penis is probably a fossa navicularis stricture. If the stricture was there prior to surgery then it was probably from some type of accident, otherwise it was caused by your catheter. This stricture can be problematic and often difficult to resolve by repeated dilation and possible surgery.

I am currently experiencing a similar problem, but hopeful of a positive outcome.

I had my prostatectomy in August 2013, followed by Adj RT and HT.

Developed a very weak stream, but was almost continent when I suddenly fell back into major incontinence. My Uro decided on a cystoscopy on July 4. Found a narrowed urethra and also 2 loose surgical staples at the neck of the bladder. Dilated the urethra and removed the staples. Catheter out on July 8, (8.30am) stream much improved, and amazingly completely continent!!

Had several good strong pees during the day with no incontinence........until around 5.00pm, suddenly found I coudn't pee. Tried several more times until by 6.30, I realsed I was in urinary retention. Back to hospital and catheter reinserted - extremely painful, but drained 400mls.

Seeing Uro on Sat July 12 to have catheter removed and hopefully to get some explanation for the retention.

Cupla questions, is catheter insertion usually painful? or am I experiencing that because of some stricture? Having seen several demos of catheter insertion on youtube, doesn't seem particularly stressful, but I found it excrutiating. The other query, any theories as to why I should regain continence after the cystoscopy? Could the dilation have removed some pressure on the sphincter or had some other physical impact. Will check all this with the Uro, but interested in the views of experienced forum members.

My biggest hope is that catheter is removed and I get strong stream back with complete continence and NO subsequent retention.

To stevet - I trust all goes well for you when catheter is removed. It's great to get a strong stream back. I was overjoyed by my first few pee's, just a shame it went downhill later. Hopefully you will be fine.

I found insertion of a catheter very painful. And I had a stricture about a quarter inch from the end of the urethra. The doctor dilated it and it was excruciatingly painful. He prescribed some lidocaine jelly and I was required to dilate it myself at home until the issue was resolved.
