I read this last night while we were under a tornado "watch" here in northern Illinois. These "watches" occur so often that most people ignore them, going about
their business until there's an actual "warning." However, having experienced a tornado way back when I was in the fifth grade, I find I still get nervous every time I check the weather radar and see a deep red or purple storm heading our way. about
12 years ago I had gone out to make sure the windows were up on the car when I heard an ominous roar coming from the west, behind our house in the darkness. I ran in, got the wife and daughter downstairs, but before we could even get to the basement, the power was out. A weak tornado had passed over our house and took the roof off of an apartment complex four blocks east of us.
I salute your wife for her courage and for being able to put this terrible experience behind her. I had a boss who lived through the terrible Xenia, Ohio, tornado back in the 70's, and he still dreads the anniversary of that storm. The people in the house across the street from him were killed that day.
Your wife did all the smart things when the storm hit, and what a brave lady she is. Let's hope none of us ever experiences Mother Nature's fury to that degree again. Thanks for sharing her story.
